Kings ace Domantas Sabonis reveals secret behind dominating performance this NBA season

On Monday night, Domantas Sabonis again demonstrated why he is a walking rebounding machine. The Kings’ talisman recorded 20 rebounds against the Nets to lead his team to victory.

This was not a one-off occurrence this season, though. Sabonis interjected himself into the NBA MVP race with such performances throughout this season. But how is the former Pacers forward dropping these unreal numbers? Sabonis has now spilled the secret of how he elevated his game to new heights with a simple decision.

Domantas Sabonis talks how deleting social media helped elevate his game

While recently talking to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on “Woj Pod”, Domantas Sabonis made a big revelation about deleting his social media handle, which helped him to stay focused on his game with a clear mindset.

“I deleted all my social media [at the] beginning of the season. You know it’s been the best thing ever, you don’t have to worry about any of that and you just go out there and play your game” said the 3-time All-Star.

Sabonis further added that the opinions his coaches, family, and teammates hold of him are the only things that matter instead of harsh comments from the NBA community on social media. “No matter what it is, good or bad, something is creeping in your mind so it’s better not to even see it, in my opinion,” said the Lithuanian, highlighting the negativity that social media tends to spread.

The 27-year-old also said that this move has helped him to spend more time with himself and his family. Getting rid of social media has definitely reflected on his numbers this season, if not anything else.

Domantas Sabonis 2024 NBA season in numbers

Domantas Sabonis has been on fire this season. By putting up massive numbers, the Kings’ ace broke previous records only to set some new ones.

On Friday, the 27-year-old center scored 16 points and 16 rebounds to imprint his footprints in the league’s history. He became the only player to have 61 consecutive double-doubles and 73 in a season, surpassing NBA legend Hakeem Olajuwon (72). With the 26 triple-doubles Sabonis has recorded this season, he is also sitting at the top of the triple-double list.

The Lithuanian is only below legendary figure Wilt Chamberlain for scoring a minimum of 20 points, 25 rebounds, and 5 assists while shooting at 90% or more in the game against the Memphis Grizzlies.

Sabonis is averaging 19.5 points, 13.8 rebounds, and 8.3 assists per game while shooting at 59.5% from the field and 37.8% from the 3-point range. There is no other player to grab as many rebounds as he did this season, no wonder he has been crowned the NBA rebounding leader.

Sabonis has taken care of the Kings’ offense and secured the eighth spot in the Western table. With four more games to go in the regular season, the Kings still have the chance to finish in the 6th to avoid play-ins.
