Warriors’ sharpshooter Klay Thompson remained nonchalant after the Warriors faced a disappointing loss to the New Orleans Pelicans, earlier today. Popularly referred to as the Dub Nation, the Warriors fanbase is known for their electrifying atmosphere which may seem threatening to visiting teams but also provides much-needed energy and enthusiasm to the home side, the Golden State Warriors.
However, considering the Warriors’ abysmal performances over the last few games, the Dub Nation have decided to call out their team in the form of boos by angered fans which did not sit right with Klay Thompson who appeared to be unbothered by the fanbase.
Thompson’s perspective on fan reaction and criticism
Klay Thompson had an interesting reaction to the criticism by home fans which was displayed in the form of boos and shouts calling out the team for their below-average performances over the last two games in the league.
Speaking to reporters after the game, the Warriors star while being frustrated, appeared to have little to no reaction to the boos and jeers from the crowd. Klay, who had a disappointing night in terms of his performances insinuated that the Warriors had greater things to worry about apart from reactions and criticism from their fans.
The star rhetorically questioned the reactions by asking, “Are we supposed to lose sleep over it?”
Klay’s words are not going to go unnoticed by the fans, especially considering their blowout loss earlier today. Apart from the loss, the Warriors find themselves in a very tough situation sitting at the 12th seed in the challenging Western Conference.
Once a fortress for the team, the Oracle Arena is a stranger to unhappy Warriors’ fans and there has never been a time where the Dub Nation has been so disheartened.
Warriors legend Stephen Curry, who struggled to get his shots going against the Pelicans, had a more earnest response to the condemnation by their supporters.
Curry said, “I don’t take it any certain type of way. Honestly, I’m booing myself. Booing our team in my head because of the way we’re playing. It is what it is. Fans are gonna react the way that they want. It’s our job to give them something to cheer about, and we have not done that.”
After hearing boos for two nights in row, both nights where the Warriors were shambolic against their opposition, the superstar called for change, saying, “You get to a point where you’re trying to explain it, trying to figure out what can change specifically that can help us.”
He added, “Those conversations are happening in between games, in film sessions, in the locker room. But it’s headed in the opposite direction. I don’t know what to say about it. We’re not used to this vibe around our team. It all sucks.”
The harsh criticism from the fans came after a gut-wrenching blowout loss to the New Orleans Pelicans, this morning.
Warriors’ performance amidst home discontent
The Golden State Warriors had a night to forget against the New Orleans Pelicans after the Warriors were ambushed left, right and center in a game that ended 141-105.
From tip-off, the Warriors, who have a depleted roster, seemed completely shaky, making mistakes that the Pelicans took advantage of. Curry, who is known for his ability to propel his teammates, was not able to get into rhythm even once in the entire game. When Curry failed to function, the Warriors seemed to stumble.
With no sense of urgency and no intent to win, the Warriors were absolutely terrible.
Undoubtedly the best player on the Warriors, Stephen Curry had one of his most disappointing games this season which resulted in a loss for Golden State. The star scored just 15 points, shooting 4 of 13 from the field. The lack of a defensive cover and a player who can screen to provide off-the-ball movement for Curry was largely evident throughout the game, as Curry ran around trying to find open spaces for himself.
Klay Thompson had a similar night as Curry’s. Apart from his forgettable defense, the star was unable to score at a pace he would’ve hoped for. He ended the night scoring 13 points which consisted of three three-pointers. Jonathan Kuminga, who the Warriors were reluctant to trade, had a decent outing but could not do much as the Warriors fell to their 20th loss this season.
As Curry said, there is strong need for change within the team. Otherwise, the Golden State Warriors will not have a season to remember or fans to support the team.
