The Olympic Gold Medalist Kurt Angle is highly regarded as one of the few WWE superstars who are legitimate pure wrestlers. After gaining fame for winning an Olympic gold medal with a broken neck, Angle’s WWE career took off successfully. He recently shared insights into the romantic storyline involving him, Stephanie McMahon, and Triple H when he first joined the company.
Kurt Angle joined WWE in 1998 and made his main roster debut within a year. His career instantly took off, propelling him to new heights in the company. He is considered as one of the greatest wrestlers in the history of professional wrestling, while being a comedic genius.
Kurt Angle discusses the Stephanie McMahon romance effect
Shortly after making his debut in WWE in 1999, Kurt Angle was involved in a romantic angle with Stephanie McMahon. It should be noted that at the time, McMahon was also married to her then on-screen husband, Triple H.
In a Reddit Ask Me Anything, Angle talked about how being involved in the love triangle with Stephanie and Triple H affected his career. According to Angle, he loved doing that storyline as it helped set the tone for his character and his direction for the rest of his career. He thanked those who were involved in the storyline, especially Vince McMahon and the writer, Brian Gewirtz.
“I loved doing my stuff with Triple H and Stephanie, too, which was the beginning of my career, and it really set the tone for Kurt Angle and the direction he was going. So I have to thank those guys for that, and especially the writer Brian Gewirtz and Vince,” said Kurt Angle.
He further continued, “That angle is what set the tone for me. It was a different time, but if I didn’t have that angle with Stephanie and Triple H, and if we didn’t succeed with that angle, I don’t know if I would have had the success that I had early on.”
Angle reveals the reason for not returning to WWE before 2017
In a Reddit AMA, Kurt Angle talked about a lot of things, including how he felt when he faced John Cena for the first time, or his thoughts on AJ Styles. Angle was also asked as to why he didn’t make a return to WWE prior to 2017, to which he replied that WWE simply didn’t want him at the time.
According to Kurt Angle, WWE was initially hesitant to bring him back due to his past legal troubles, including issues with drugs and approximately four DUIs at the time. This might have made WWE and Vince McMahon think twice about planning his return. Eventually, when they saw that he had turned his life around, was happily married, and in great shape, they decided to welcome him back to the company.
Kurt Angle will undoubtedly go down in history as one of the greatest superstars of all time. His charisma, enthusiasm, excellent in-ring skills, and mic abilities make him one of the greatest of all time. We hope to see Angle make a future appearance in WWE.
