Kyle Lowry on his role with Sixers: My job is to make sure Tyrese Maxey gets better

Kyle Lowry is widely known for his time with the Toronto Raptors, during which he was an established superstar and among the best shooters in the league. Since his move from the Raptors, Lowry has transitioned into a role player coming off the bench.

In his most recent move to the Philadelphia 76ers, Lowry is well aware of his roles and understands his identity and position within the team. This strategic move allows the player to grow into his role without putting pressure on any other aspect.

The Philadelphia 76ers brought in Kyle Lowry from the buyout market with the sole intention of increasing their offensive variations off the bench. Lowry was also backed by his former coach Nick Nurse to effectively integrate within the team.

Along with providing valuable off-the-bench minutes, the injury-hit Sixers also hoped that Lowry would be able to mentor young superstar Tyrese Maxey, who has been exceptionally crucial to 76ers success this season.

Speaking to the media earlier today, Kyle Lowry set the record straight on his role with the Sixers. Lowry emphasized his intentions to make the team better and help them achieve the level of success he experienced in 2018 when the Toronto Raptors won the NBA Championship against the Golden State Warriors.

Addressing reporters that questioned his role within the team, Lowry said, “My job is to make sure that Tyrese gets better [and] this team gets to a point where they haven’t been in a while,” Lowry said following Wednesday’s practice. “My job is to do everything I can do to make this team and this organization better.”

He emphasized his desire to help the team, saying, “No matter what the role is, the minutes are, what the situation is, my role is to be a professional.”

With such intent to play and help the team improve, it is certain that Kyle Lowry will be a great addition to Joel Embiid’s and the Philadelphia 76ers quest to winning a championship.

Former HCs on what Kyle Lowry brings to Sixers

Kyle Lowry has a reputation for being a great teammate, a quality that is hard to come across these days. Lowry’s off-the-court traits have been validated and commended by his former coaches who hold the player in high regards for the qualities he brings to the table.

While the former Raptors star has not been having a stellar season as such, Lowry is putting up modest numbers for a player coming off the bench. Apart from his direct contributions to the game, it is his experience that plays a vital role for whichever team he plays for. Lowry’s current Head Coach Nick Nurse was also Lowry’s coach when the Toronto Raptors won their championship in 2018.

Nurse suggested that the superstar still has a very aggressive mentality towards winning, saying, “Well, I’ve said this a thousand times, but maybe you guys haven’t heard it: Nobody competes like that guy. I haven’t had a player in my entire coaching career that competes like that guy. That’s the highest compliment I can give him.”

Nick Nurse isn’t the only coach that has showered praise on Lowry. In his time with the Miami Heat, Kyle was also a big favorite of Heat coach Erik Spoelstra. Erik relied on the star for his vision and creativity that contributed to the Heat’s success in his years with the team.

Speaking on Lowry and his move to the 76ers, Spoelstra said, “We didn’t accomplish our ultimate goal, but there were a lot of playoff wins and he had a big part in all of that. I really enjoyed the time working together and collaborating. It’ll be a good fit here, back at home and working with a coach who he’s very familiar with.”

There is no higher praise that any player would want and the fact that two legendary coaches have backed up Kyle Lowry gives 76ers fans a great image on the type of player Lowry is.
