Kyler Murray cites Tiki Barber’s remarks after Marquise Brown signs $11,000,000 contract with Chiefs

With the NFL offseason in full swing, teams are actively seeking to bolster their rosters, while impending free agents are eager to secure their next destination. Recently, veteran wide receiver Marquise Brown made headlines by joining the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, after spending the last two seasons with the Arizona Cardinals.

However, amidst Brown’s transition to his new team, his former teammate Kyler Murray captured attention with a lighthearted farewell message for the receiver.

Kyler Murray uses Tiki Barber’s method to bid farewell to Marquise Brown

Former New York Giants player Tiki Barber’s straightforward response to Saquon Barkley’s departure has become a template for other NFL players when one of their teammates signs with another team. Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray is the latest to draw inspiration from Barber’s approach, extending his well-wishes to Marquise Brown.

In a tweet accompanied by a clip from the movie 300, Murray echoed Barber’s sentiments, stating, “You’re dead to us @Primetime_jet! Good luck, you’re dead to me.”

Saquon Barkley’s decision to leave the Giants after signing a contract with the rival Philadelphia Eagles elicited a similar response from Tiki Barber, who famously declared on his WFAN Sports Radio show, “You’re dead to us, Saquon. Good luck, you’re dead to me.” Barkley responded bluntly, emphasizing the financial aspect of the deal and stating his loyalty to the Giants organization.

However, unlike the Barkley-Barber exchange, Marquise Brown responded to Murray’s banter with a touch of humor. “Ima miss you little man,” Hollywood Brown wrote, sharing Murray’s post along with some emojis.

Murray and Brown have been friends since they attended the University of Oklahoma in 2017. The Cardinals reunited the duo in April 2022 when they acquired Brown in a trade from the Baltimore Ravens. Murray’s playful farewell gesture follows the trendy formula in recent exchanges between departing players and their former teammates.

Details on Marquise Brown Chiefs’ contract

The Chiefs have bolstered their receiving corps by signing Marquise Brown to a one-year deal worth up to $11 million. While specific contract details remain undisclosed, this move signifies a strategic upgrade for quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs’ passing game.

With the departure of Tyreek Hill, the Chiefs have been in search of a dynamic playmaker to complement their offensive arsenal. Second-round draft pick Rashee Rice showed promise, but the team recognized the need for an experienced receiver like Brown to enhance their aerial attack. It was evident after the Chiefs’ struggle on offense during the last season.

Though they ultimately etched their name in history, they understood heavily that with this offense, Mahomes’ wish to get three-pat is obviously challenging.

Brown, acquired by the Cardinals in a draft day trade in 2022, showcased his talent with a career-high 1,008 receiving yards during his tenure with the Ravens. Nevertheless, injuries have plagued his recent seasons, limiting his on-field contributions, per KSDK.

Despite a down year in 2023 with a career-low 574 yards, his potential as a big-play threat remains undeniable. His addition to the Chiefs’ roster, along with Chris Jones’ new contract extension, is expected to pave the way for the Chiefs to achieve their coveted three-pat dream.
