Kylian Mbappe has been PSG’s shining light this season. The former Monaco man surprisingly turned his PSG career around, thanks to PSG’s swift thinking. The Frenchman had been demoted to train with the club’s pool of unwanted players, but a breakthrough in talks saw him reinstated into the team – a move that has worked well for all parties so far.
Currently Mbappe is leading the goalscoring chart in the Ligue 1 with seven goals. However, the Frenchman limped off in PSG’s 4-0 win over Marseille on Sunday, leaving Luis Enrique sweating over his star man.
Kylian Mbappe injury update
Luis Enrique was the happiest man in football when he got the news Kylian Mbappe would return to the team after the temporary banishment he received from the club for not signing a new contract amid rumors of a potential move to Real Madrid. The Frenchman has been one of the first names on the lineup since his return, repaying the coach’s faith by scoring seven goals in five games.
Kylian Mbappe was also named on the team sheet for PSG’s clash with Marseille on Sunday but limped off after just 32 minutes. The French ace had received a hard tackle to his left ankle earlier in the game, which he tried to shake off, but the pain apparently persisted, causing Luis Enrique to take his star man off. Five minutes later, PSG were leading 2-0 courtesy of goals from Achraf Hakimi, who scored his second goal in a row, and Randa Kolo Muani, who was opening his account for his new club.
Luis Enrique later said in his post-match conference that Mbappe’s injury was not serious, as he was only substituted as a precaution.
“He was in a bit of pain, and it was difficult for him to play. It was wiser to take him off, but it’s just a blow. I don’t think it is anything serious”, the former Barcelona treble-winning manager said.
PSG dominate Le Classique despite forward’s early substitution
PSG only had their top goalscorer for 32 minutes in the match against Marseille, but that did not stop the team from tearing their bitter rivals apart in a 4-0 thumping win to go third in Ligue 1. It was the perfect response after last week’s 3-2 defeat to Nice.
The Parisians started the game strongly after Achraf Hakimi put them ahead in the 8th minute. Randal Kolo Muani also scored his first goal for the club since his big money move from Eintracht Frankfurt.
Goncalo Ramos’ second-half brace sealed the deal for PSG as they continued their rise to the summit of the league after a slow start to the season. PSG will now turn their attention to Saturday’s clash against Clermont Foot before a crunch European game against Newcastle United four days later.
