However, in a shocking turn of events, Real Madrid have ended their pursuit of the Frenchman, paving the way for Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, to register a concrete interest in Kylian Mbappe. Could Liverpool’s interest lead to a strong offer?
Liverpool expected to make shock offer for Kylian Mbappe
Liverpool went off last year, but they look back to their best this season, and new signings have definitely helped them achieve that. They look like serious title contenders this season, but what they’re building is quite beyond this season; they’re effectively preparing for the next few years, and who’s better to be the new leader of the pack than Kylian Mbappe?
Real Madrid were put off by Kylian Mbappe’s wage demands, which they believed would create a dressing room rift. Real Madrid’s loss is about to be other clubs’ gain, as PL clubs are now circling around the Frenchman, hoping to secure his signing ahead of an important summer transfer for Mbappe in 2024.
The World Cup winner’s contract at PSG expires next summer, which means he’s free to discuss contracts with other clubs from January and can even sign a pre-contract with any club of his choice. Liverpool, who have always kept an eye on Mbappe, are now believed to be one of the favorites to land him.
The star’s mother is a big-time Liverpool fan, and her love for the English club could prove vital in joining the Reds. “I talked to Liverpool because it’s the favorite club of my mum; my mum loves Liverpool. I don’t know why; you will have to ask her,” the Frenchman said last year.
Real Madrid not interested in signing Kylian Mbappe
It may seem strange, but Real Madrid have now reportedly ended their pursuit of Kylian Mbappe, who they’ve been chasing for the past three years. Mbappe was supposed to be Real Madrid’s next superstar signing, but the Spanish giants have now declined to proceed to enter talks with the PSG forward, whose contract expires next summer.
Sources close to the club cited three major reasons as the club’s reasons to stop pursuing the World Cup winner. Firstly, his wage demands were considered “too hefty” and would disrupt the dressing room.
Secondly, signing the Frenchman by the time he turns 26 would go against the club’s recent transfer policy of only investing in younger players, as they did with the likes of Jude Bellingham, Endrick, Vinicius Jr., Camavinga, and Tchouameni.
Lastly, Florentino Perez is still reeling from what he sensed as betrayal from Kylian Mbappe last season when he thought he had an agreement with the Frenchman, only for him to go ahead and sign a new two-year contract with PSG.
