Kylian Mbappe’s teammate reportedly eager to follow Lionel Messi to MLS

Lionel Messi and Inter Miami are in their second season together and got off to a flying start in their new MLS campaign for the 2024 season. Remember that Messi joined Inter Miami last July to much fanfare, and he helped the club pick up their first trophy when they won the League Cup last year?

Lionel Messi has since been joined by other big names and former Barcelona teammates, including Luis Suarez, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets. If all goes well, Messi could yet be joined by a certain teammate of Kylian Mbappe at the international level, as Inter Miami want to win it all this season.

Olivier Giroud to follow Lionel Messi to MLS

At 37, Olivier Giroud is nearing the end of his career, and what better way to do that than play alongside Lionel Messi? The French forward has been on AC Milan’s books since 2021, when he left Chelsea after winning the UEFA Champions League with the Blues under Thomas Tuchel in 2021.

Reports coming out of Italy are claiming that Olivier Giroud could be the latest big-name player to join Lionel Messi at Inter Miami as David Beckham and Co. continue to build a star-studded squad that can challenge on all fronts for the available trophies in American football.

Giroud may not be the most recognized goalscorer, but one thing is certain; he’s a serial winner. After winning the UCL with Chelsea in 2021, Giroud followed it up with a league title at AC Milan, alongside former Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who also played in the MLS during his illustrious career.

Giroud and Lionel Messi last crossed paths in the final of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, which Messi and Argentina won after defeating France 4-3 on penalties.

Messi and Co. set sight at quadruple season

All eyes are on Inter Miami this season for the club to deliver after signing big-name players over the past two transfer windows. Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets are the biggest players on the team, and these are serial winners who won the treble together with Barcelona in 2015.

There’s nowhere to hide for Tata Martino now, as Suarez himself revealed that every MLS club will now try to beat them to prove a point.

“It’s a case of all the teams wanting to beat you; they want to compete with you,” the former Liverpool striker said. “Why? First of all, because we’re a team that can fight for the title. They know it’s what we want. They know how ambitious we are,” he added.

Their title aspirations got off to a flying start yesterday when the Florida-based club beat Real Salt Lake 2-0 in their opening MLS game of the season, although neither Lionel Messi nor Luis Suarez got on the scoresheet.
