Luka Doncic in his relatively short career so far, has made himself one of the poster boys of the NBA. His performance on the court has been nothing short of remarkable this season and the MVP shouts he is getting are justifiably understandable.
After the game against the Miami Heat, two more players boarded the Luka Doncic for MVP hype train, and knowing their relationship with the Slovenian, it is safe to say, they are not getting off it easily.
Kyrie Irving lavishes praise on Luka Doncic
On Wednesday night at the Kaseya Center, the Dallas players were spotted wearing a special t-shirt during the pregame warm-up session. The message “Pravi MVP” written on the t-shirt meant real MVP. The players wanted to convey a strong message through the apparel, which Luka’s closest teammate elaborately explained.
During the post-game press conference, Kyrie Irving stated why he believes his Robin deserves the 2024 MVP title. “We all knew how special this year was going to be…(Luka was) really being more vocal, challenging his teammates, challenging me and doing it in his own way and I think that’s the true sign of an MVP…His stats speak for themselves,” Irving told the reporters.
Appearing for 70 games this season, the scoring beast Doncic averaged 33.9 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 9.8 assists, making him stand tall amongst the MVP contenders. However, as per NBA.com’s latest update, the Slovenian guard is at the second spot on the list.
Kyrie Irving, who has been his constant support both during the game and afterwards, strongly feels that Luka is worthy of the title because of the outstanding performance he has displayed in the entire season. Irving is not the only person who has been observing Doncic so closely. Another of his teammates opened up about his MVP worth.
P.J. Washington backs Luka Doncic for NBA MVP
Ever since his trade from the Charlotte Hornets in February this year, P.J. Washington has made himself a key contributor to the Dallas Mavericks’ cause. The hometown forward is laser-focused on the task at hand, and now he has weighed in on what Luka Doncic brings to the table.
Talking to the press after the Heat game, Washington opened up about Doncic’s MVP bid. Praising the Slovenian, the 25-year-old said, “credit to Luka for the season he’s had. He’s a special player and I’m just excited to be able to play with him and watch his greatness each and every night.” P.J.W did not stop there and added, “He’s the real MVP.”
Washington so far has 4 20+ point games with the Dallas side, his highest contribution coming in the game against the Warriors last Friday.
With the Mavs getting confirmation of their post-season opponents in the first play-off round with two games remaining in the regular season, time is of the essence for Luka Doncic to confirm his first-ever NBA MVP award.
