Lakers icon Lebron James’ admission of wanting to win his 5th ‘Larry O’Brien Trophy’ title leaves NBA fans in splits: “He ain’t winning it”

As the NBA regular season kicks off next Tuesday, it will have been 156 days since the Lakers’ defeat in the Western Conference Finals at the hands of Nikola Jokic’s Denver Nuggets. LeBron has already secured one NBA championship with the Lakers, and he is now entering his 21st regular season in the NBA.

He has made it clear that he’s focused on pursuing more championships this season, which would be his second with the Lakers and his fifth O’Brien Trophy overall. However, as he approaches the tail end of his career, some fans are beginning to doubt the possibility.

LeBron James motivated to win NBA trophy

LeBron James doesn’t appear to be satisfied with previous achievements in his career, as he is poised to secure more championships to his name and team as the season draws near. In a post on X by Lakers Daily, the legend disclosed what he had on his mind for the new season with the caption “The king has his mind set on N0. 5 with trophy emoji.” He said, “[I am] still seeing that O’Brien Trophy in my mind on a daily basis.”

The legend led the Lakers to the championship in 2020, while averaging 29.8 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 8.5 assists per game in the finals, disclosed to reporters in preparation for their opener against the Nuggets on 24 Oct. 2023, how motivated he is for the new season.

LeBron said, “I just think for one, it’s just my motivation to continue to be as great as I can be and solidify what I want to do in my career.” While the legend is aiming to add to his NBA title, there are fans who believe LeBron can’t do it again considering he is 38 at the moment.

A fan who felt the King’s motivation was not enough to win another championship replied with a tweet when he said, “They going be nice this year but they ain’t winning it.”

This fan outrightly wrote off LeBron James’ chances of winning the NBA again, saying, “He’s never winning it again.”

However, the fans will see if LeBron’s optimism will push the team to perform at the highest level to win the needed championship.

LeBron James’ NBA finals stats

LeBron James’ talent was never doubted. His career earned quick recognition back in high school. LeBron who was selected no.1 overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft, made his debut at 18 years old with the Cleveland Cavaliers. The legend has gone on to earn multiple awards and achievements across different stints at the Heat and the Lakers.

The legendary player has achieved remarkable statistics in NBA Finals as an individual. He has participated in 55 Finals games, boasting an average of 28.4 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 7.8 assists. These impressive stats have contributed to LeBron James securing four NBA championship rings, four MVP awards, and earning 19 All-Star selections, among other accolades.

While LeBron’s proven track record suggests he’s a reliable player for pursuing a championship, there may be concerns about whether he can maintain these statistics as he approaches the age of 39 this December.
