Lando Norris reveals his race strategy against Max Verstappen after narrow miss at F1 Sao Paulo GP victory

Many drivers strive to perform at their best, but some fail to achieve success due to a lack of proper strategies and planning. Every driver’s ultimate goal is now to  defeat the three-time World Champion, Max Verstappen, at his own game.

Lando Norris reveals his race strategy against Max Verstappen

While the Dutch sensation Max Verstappen clinched a victory at the Brazilian Grand Prix, Lando Norris delivered an outstanding performance as well, finishing in P2, right behind Verstappen in both the sprint and the main race. As per the reports, the British-Belgian driver explained the strategies he used while on the run on the Interlagos Circuit.

Although Norris started from a low position on the grid, P7, he quickly advanced to P2 within the first corner and successfully maintained the position for the rest of the race. However, he was unable to challenge the Red Bull powerhouse.

The Briton also mentioned that he was able to keep up with Verstappen for the first fifteen laps or so; however, he consistently fell behind towards the end of the stints. He said,  “I don’t know if that’s because we’re a bit slower and I’m pushing harder to keep up, or if we’re just a bit weaker in terms of tire management.”

Norris was also vocal about how weak McLaren was in Turns 10 and 12, considering that was the crucial period in which Red Bull managed to pass through ahead of them. The only opportunity for Noris to firmly challenge Verstappen was on the run-up to Turn 4.

2023 has proved to be a game-changing one for the McLaren team, and their recent performances suggest that they are on their way to becoming the next-best challengers on the grid. Following Lando Norris’s podium win in the Brazilian GP, he also hinted at challenging Red Bull for the next season by coming back with a much stronger format in 2024.

At the beginning of the season, McLaren was lacking, struggling to keep pace with their competitors and ranking as the second-slowest team on the grid. However, with the updated version of the car at the Austrian GP, the team began to achieve back-to-back podiums, earning them recognition as the next potential challenger of Red Bull.
