On January 20, 2021, Khamzat Chimaev was supposed to fight Leon Edwards, but the bout was canceled. Then it was expected to take place on March 13th of the same year, but Chimaev chose to opt out of the bout.

That time, Belal Muhammad stepped in as an opponent for Edwards. During that period, Dana White inquired about what was happening with this significant matchup, and he also appeared surprised at what was unfolding.

According to ESPN, Dana White was also excited and even chose the Edwards vs. Chimaev fight as his favorite fight of the year. But he informed the media that during the post-COVID-19 phase, it is more important for fighters to stay healthy. After finding out that Khamzat Chimaev is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, they had to cancel the bout and replace ‘Rocky’s’ opponent with Belal.

Recently, for the UFC 300 main event, Khamazat Chimaev said he would fight anybody, but not during Ramadan this time. “I will fight everybody. Leon [Edwards], [Dricus] du Plessis, anyone, but not [during] Ramadan.”

Last time Khamzat fought against Gilbert Burns while training in Ramadan and fought while he was fasting. After UFC 273, for the first time, Chimaev looked exhausted after a fight. This time, he doesn’t want to take the risk.
