Formula 1 witnessed a tragic split in the 2021 season between Lewis Hamilton and his long-time friend Mark Hynes, marking the end of one of the greatest duos in the sport.
However, in a surprising turn of events, the pair have rekindled their friendship after three years of no contact. With the duo’s return, fans are eagerly looking forward to the upcoming season, excited to witness their wonders on the grid again.
Lewis Hamilton reunited with Marc Hynes
One of the key figures who significantly influenced Lewis Hamilton’s racing career was his former assistant, Mark Hynes. The pair knew each other since their karting days, and they first met officially in 2016.
From 2016 to 2021, Hynes dedicated his time to closely observing Hamilton, providing valuable feedback that contributed to Hamilton winning all four championship titles during that period. Beyond racing, Hynes played a crucial role in Hamilton’s business and philanthropic ventures, serving as the CEO of Hamilton’s management company, Project Forty-Four.
However, after the split, which occurred briefly before the 2021 season, the pair lost contact, with the team’s performance drastically changing. Ahead of the 2024 season, Mark’s reappearance on the management team was decided by Hamilton and Mercedes to bring back their long-lost spark and end Red Bull’s dominance.
Briefing on the matter, their spokesperson said, “Lewis is looking forward to the beginning of the new Formula 1 season and he will be working with Marc Hynes, his long-term friend and former colleague who will be providing his expertise to assist Lewis on the track.”
“Marc will be solely focused on racing activities and supporting Lewis’s commitment to bringing the fight back to the top spot.”
Following Mark Hynes’ departure, Lewis Hamilton had worked with Penni Thow, who is part of the management organization Copper. Now that Hamilton’s contract with Copper has expired, he is calling back Hynes. However, he will continue to collaborate with Penni Thow on some of their joint projects.
Why did Marc Hynes and Lewis Hamilton’s ties initially collapse?
Despite their five-year partnership, Mark Hynes and Lewis Hamilton went through a significant separation before the 2021 season. The decision stemmed from Hynes’ intention to explore other opportunities in motorsport rather than continuing in his role as Hamilton’s assistant.
Lewis Hamilton continued his Formula 1 racing career with Mercedes, while Mark Hynes parted ways with the team. Despite the professional separation, the two maintained a strong friendship outside of their work relationship.
