Opinions on the Las Vegas Grand Prix varied, with not everyone sharing the same perspective. Some viewed the event as a lavish and unnecessary expenditure on showbiz, while others argued that despite the excessive showbiz, the race was much more interesting than all the other boring events like the one in Monaco.
Amid these various opinions, the seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton shared his personal views subtly hinting at criticism towards Max Verstappen’s disapproval of the event since the declaration of its occurrence.
Lewis Hamilton throws dig at Verstappen
Lewis Hamilton addressed the critics of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, including Max Verstappen in one of his interviews.
Verstappen had been vocal about his disapproval of the event, consistently criticizing the glamour of the show as he emphasized that the show was more about the lavishing arrangements rather than the sport itself.
Earlier in the week, he even labelled it as a “99 per cent show and 1 per cent sporting event.” and expressed his frustration with the opening ceremony by saying, “We are just standing up there looking like a clown.”
Despite his continuous criticism, the Dutchman’s perspective completely shifted when he secured his 18th win at the event and celebrated it by singing Elvis’ Viva Las Vegas as he crossed the finish line.
As a result, in response to the critics, Hamilton declared that the event had proven them wrong.
Hamilton unveils time loss amidst Las Vegas GP chaos
The Las Vegas Grand Prix has proved to be a frustrating period for the British driver, Lewis Hamilton. During the race, Hamilton executed a move on the McLaren driver at Turn 14 in the middle of the race. Unfortunately, the contact caused punctures in both cars. Russell had a collision with Verstappen too, however, he apologized for his actions unexpectedly at an interview per PalnetF1.
The Mercedes driver only felt the effect of the tyre deflation after he had passed the pit lane, ultimately forcing him to drive throughout the rest of the Circuit at a reduced speed.
At the time, Hamilton even found himself in a low position as 17th for the sake of the recovery of his car. However, in the end, the seven-time World Champion crossed the line in the 7th position, the position which improved further after George Russell’s penalty was imposed. Recently, one of Hamilton’s race winning car has been sold at an expensive price at an auction.
Expressing his frustration after the race, Hamilton said “I started on the hard tyre, which was tricky at the beginning and I got hit from someone behind, a big hit, I think it was from Carlos or something like that.”
