For those who might not be familiar with Luger’s pre-wrestling days, here’s a little backstory. Prior to entering the ring, Luger excelled as a star player for the University of Miami Hurricanes. His big build and athletic prowess were noticed.
In 1979, he got drafted by the Green Bay Packers. Luger spent four seasons with the Packers, where he showed off his skills as a defensive lineman. After that, he made a jump to NWA professional wrestling in 1985, and his amazing physique and excellent abilities earned him the moniker “The Total Package.”
Recently, Wrestling News official shared an old picture of Luger wearing his Green Bay Packers outfit, which made him nostalgic about the old days. With the simple caption: “Now there’s a blast from the past!”
Luger himself retweeted the throwback image. After this tweet exchange, many fans in the comment section brought up Luger’s history as a football and wrestling star. Some fans have gone so far as to ask him which he prefers: the NFL or professional wrestling, but the 65-year-old wrestling legend has not replied yet.
During his reign, Lex Luger was unmatched in WCW heavyweight competition. He won the championship not once, but twice, and was also the WWA heavyweight champion. However, he might have even held another major title if things went differently without Vince Mchmahon’s intervention.

Despite having a stellar wrestling career, Vince McMahon once prevented Lex Luger from winning another WWE championship. He recently expressed his thoughts on this, claiming that he had never felt upset about it.
In a recent interview with Busted Open Radio, Luger said that Bret Hart was picked over him even though he was very close to winning a WWE title. He acknowledged Hart’s remarkable reign and the facts surrounding the big event as he accepted this choice.
McMahon never actually promised Luger the title, but Luger said that the former chairman wanted the moment to be special and wanted it to happen at WrestleMania 10. Luger showed respect for the organization’s decision-making process even if he did not win the WWE championship.
