Lions S Kerby Joseph out till training camp following hip surgery

The Detroit Lions are currently thinking about the roster moves of key players like quarterback Jared Goff. The team is still reeling from their Super Bowl hopes being dashed by the San Francisco 49ers last season. They will be facing another setback as safety Kerby Joseph will miss the offseason program due to recovery from hip surgery.

Speaking at the unveiling of the Lions’ new uniforms, he exuded optimism. “I’m good, man.A little hiccup, but that ain’t nothing. Nothing can stop J-Kerb. I’m going to go all the way”, Joseph said via NBC Sports.

The defensive star remained focused on his recovery and is optimistic about returning to full strength for training camp in late July.

“If I’m out there, I’m going 100%. Ain’t no hindrance. I’m going to give it all I got every time. No excuses.”

The veteran sustained the injury in Week 2 of the previous season. However, he remarkably missed only two games before powering through the remainder of the season.

With Joseph’s absence from the offseason program, the Lions will look to Ifeatu Melifonwu to step up alongside him next season. The depth at the safety position may become a concern for the squad, as only Brandon Joseph and slot cornerback Brian Branch have the possibility of transitioning to the role to provide backup.

The long-awaited reveal showcased a nod to the Lions’ past while embracing a contemporary aesthetic. The new design was inspired by the uniforms of the 1990s. It features sleek adjustments, including a reduction in sleeve stripes and refined detailing.

With bold choices like all-black uniforms and revamped helmet designs, the Lions aim to make a statement on the field while honoring their heritage. The incorporation of white trim on silver pants and the reintroduction of Honolulu blue face masks pay homage to iconic elements of the team’s history.
