Injuries can significantly impact a team’s pursuit of a title, as seen in the case of Tottenham. Their smooth run was disrupted when Richarlison joined the squad due to injuries to Micky van de Ven and James Maddison in a London derby. Meanwhile, Liverpool has also faced injury challenges but has managed to maintain a commendable performance.
Before Joel Matip, Liverpool was already contending with at least five first-team injuries, the longest being Thiago Alcantara. Joel Matip’s serious knee injury may keep him out for a long time.
Joel Matip injury update
Liverpool is currently uncertain of the extent of Matip’s injury as they await more information about the injury he sustained during their recent Premier League victory over Fulham. The extent of the injury remains unknown, leaving the club and fans eager for updates on the condition of the key defender.
Concerns are growing at Liverpool as there are fears that Joel Matip’s knee injury could keep him sidelined for “several months.” The injury is so severe that, as a result, Matip may not be able to play another game for Liverpool again. Jurgen Klopp expressed immediate concern, indicating that the nature of the injury was evident from the “first second” it occurred during the recent 4-3 victory over Fulham.
In his pre-match press conference before the Sheffield United game, Jurgen Klopp disclosed that Joel Matip, Liverpool’s No. 32, had not undergone scans at that point. The delay in conducting scans was attributed to swelling around Matip’s knee, creating challenges in assessing the complete extent of the injury, but it was later confirmed to be a serious knee injury.
List of important Liverpool player out with injury
Liverpool are currently confronted with several first-team injuries and at least six players wait on the sidelines for full recovery before returning to action.
Thiago Alcantara has been injured longer than anyone else in the squad. Thiago has been absent from the squad since undergoing surgery to address a hip issue, which had forced him to miss the concluding weeks of the 2022-2023 season. As of now, he continues to be unavailable for selection. On his return date, Jurgen Klopp said:
“It’s an ongoing thing and we cannot put any kind of pressure on there as well. We expect him to be back – and I would say probably the start of the New Year. It’s now already November, so that would mean another four weeks.
Stefan Bajcetic is another injured Liverpool player, and speaking on his return, Klopp made it clear that: “We don’t know [when he will be back]. With Stefan it’s, again, one of these things. Stefan’s quality, potential, talent, everybody could see and it’s incredible – what a player – but the body was not ready yet. They are still growing these boys and they are all different; we have other players with a different, what is it, skeleton, a different body where OK that’s fine and for other players it is a bit too early.”
Liverpool’s number one goalkeeper, Alisson Becker, also faces some time out due to an injury sustained during the Premier League draw at Manchester City on November 25.
There is hope for an early return for Alisson, according to the manager: “Obviously Ali is closer but not available for [Sheffield United] definitely.”
Diogo Jota is also injured for Liverpool and joining this list is Joel Matip.
