Liverpool have been nothing short of incredible this season. The Reds are still active in all competitions, with Jurgen Klopp looking ready to scoop all the trophies in his last season as Liverpool manager after the German announced a few months ago that he’d be leaving at the end of the season to take a much-needed and deserved sabbatical from football altogether.
Liverpool’s participation in all these competitions has taken a toll on the team’s physical performance, with several first-team stars out injured ahead of an important game against Chelsea this weekend as both teams clash in the Carabao Cup final.
Latest Liverpool injury update ahead of Carabao Cup final
Liverpool started yesterday’s game against Luton with a back four of Conor Bradley, Quansah, Van Dijk, and Joe Gomez, all sitting in front of second-choice goalkeeper Kelleher. Although the final score was 4-1 in favor of Liverpool, it didn’t tell the whole story, as the Reds struggled in the first half as they trailed at halftime.
Injuries have been Jurgen Klopp’s major problem this season, as his star players have gone on the injury table one after the other. From Mo Salah to Diogo Jota to goalkeeper Alisson, things are not looking good for Liverpool ahead of their biggest game of the season yet in the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea this weekend, which could see them lift their first trophy of the season.
According to the German manager during his post-match conference after the Luton game, Liverpool could miss as many as five main first-team players for the weekend clash against Chelsea. Diogo Jota, Alisson, Curtis Jones, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Dominik Szoboszlai have all been ruled out, which spells trouble for Jurgen Klopp and his team.
Mo Salah and Darwin Nunez are also doubts for the game, although there’s a good chance that they’ll be involved.
Jurgen Klopp says situation is ‘not fantastic’ for Liverpool before Carabao Cup final
Liverpool started yesterday’s game with five new academy players named on the bench. When they went behind in the early stages of the game, many thought they had no chance of turning things around, and although they went on to win the game 4-1, Jurgen Klopp was the first to admit things weren’t looking great for him and his team ahead of the Carabao Cup final clash against Chelsea.
“No new updates,” the departing manager said. “I don’t even know if these boys can play, to be honest. The situation is not great, absolutely not,” he added.
While the situation was bad for Liverpool, Klopp admitted his excitement at the youngsters getting their first-team debuts in the game. “I’m so happy the kids came on and played. I’m so happy I could give them that opportunity. It’s just nice, and the boys deserve it,” Klopp said.
