Every club has to rebuild every once in a while, and this time, it’s Liverpool’s turn to shape up the squad that fell short last season, with Romeo Lavia being identified as a crucial target. Everyone expected Liverpool to compete on all fronts last season after losing out to City in the title race with just one point in the 21/22 season.
Liverpool ended up finishing fifth last season, one spot below Newcastle and was dumped out of the Champions League by Real Madrid, making a summer rebuild a necessity rather than a luxury. The earlier the club can round up another midfield signing for Klopp, the better.
Southampton rejected Liverpool’s £45 million offer for Romeo Lavia
Liverpool now have a depleted midfield after the departure of James Milner, Fabinho, and club captain Jordan Henderson. While Brighton snapped up James Milner on a free transfer, Saudi clubs paid a premium to secure the signing of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho, leaving Liverpool with enough money to spend on a new midfielder despite the earlier signing of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.
Liverpool have had their third bid for former Manchester City youngster Romeo Lavia rejected after failing to match Southampton’s valuation of the player. The Saints are holding out for a fee of at least £50 million for the young midfielder. According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool will continue to hold talks with Southampton over Lavia, and hopefully, an agreement can be reached soon enough for the youngster to join the Reds ahead of the new season.

Liverpool have concluded some of the earliest deals of this current transfer window. They snapped up Mac Allister and Szoboszlai over a month ago, but the lack of movement since that time has left fans angered and frustrated.
Liverpool’s decision to delay the signing of Romeo Lavia has offended football fans
In a summer where Manchester United and Arsenal have been more active in the transfer window than Liverpool despite finishing ahead of the Merseyside club last season, many fans have been left to wonder why the lack of movement was lacking, especially with the Romeo Lavia deal from Southampton.
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has expressed his frustration with the delay in signing Lavia from Southampton. “This is embarrassing,” the football pundit lamented. “Liverpool, for years now, have got deals done quickly with no fuss. If you don’t think he’s worth 50M, move on. If you really want him, pay it. Also not sure why LFC isn’t in for Caicedo. Yes, it’s a lot of money, but Liverpool got big money for JH/FAB (Jordan Henderson and Fabinho).”
