In this regard, he recently made a strong comment about the team’s fiercest opponent, the Ohio State Buckeyes, which prompted a direct response from Ohio State head coach Ryan Day.

Since 1936, Ohio State has never fallen to Notre Dame, and on Saturday, Ohio State upheld its tradition by defeating No. 9 Notre Dame. During a recent interview on The Pat McAfee Show, the former Notre Dame head coach claimed that Notre Dame is a superior football team to Ohio State prior to the game.
Additionally, Holtz proclaimed that he thought the Irish possessed the nation’s “best offensive line.” Ryan Day responded to Holtz’s comment after Ohio State’s incredible last-second victory against Notre Dame on the road. He expressed his astonishment at how Holtz could disregard the heritage of such a significant team.
“I’d like to know where Lou Holtz is right now. What he said about our team…I cannot believe. This is a tough team right here. We’re proud to be from Ohio.”
Nine years have passed since the Ohio State football team last raised a College Football National Championship trophy. However, Ryan emphasized that his players are trying hard to recover and climb again as soon as possible.
“It’s always been Ohio against the world! It’ll continue to be Ohio against the world! But I’ll tell you what, I love those kids and we have a tough team!”
Like Holtz, Ryan has drawn notice for being an effective coach who has led the Ohio State Buckeyes to a 45-6 record from 2019 to 22.

In response to Ryan Day’s criticism of Lou Holtz, numerous online users criticized him for his scathing response to a veteran coach. Lou Holtz concluded his coaching career in 2004, while Ryan has not even completed a decade in his coaching career. Many netizens also slammed the Buckeyes coach for taking Holtz’s words so seriously and for allowing teams and fans to engage in a brawl.
“The dude is doing nothing but pumping up the fans/team. Day needs to calm down,” one comment read.
“He’s 86,” another fan commented mentioning the age of Lou Holtz as his rival Day is just 44-year-old.
No matter what Holtz says, his backing of the Notre Dame player will keep him close to every fan’s heart. Hence, Day also had to digest a comment like “Ryan Day is a bitch!” for his criticism of Holtz.
