The soccer world was shocked to hear of an unfortunate incident that had occurred to one of its players, Luis Diaz. It was reported that the Colombian and Liverpool superstar had faced a terrible situation that left him devastated.
His parents, both his mother and father were kidnapped in their hometown in Colombia, and the incident has since seen a lot of developments. The soccer community has expressed their anger and shock at the incident and everyone is praying for a swift solution.
Latest update on Luis Diaz’s parent’s kidnapping
Both his father, Luis Manuel Diaz and mother, Cilenis Marulanda, were kidnapped in their native Barrancas region of Colombia on Saturday. The Sun had reported that the parents were traveling to a relative’s house and stopped at a petrol station. Around 5.30 PM local time, they were held hostage by four men on two bikes.
Authorities, including the police and military, were quickly dispatched to resolve the situation. No demands had been made, though it is thought that asking for ransom money from Luis Diaz was the main motive. The kidnappers also had a plan to smuggle the hostages into neighboring Venezuela.
Later, it was found that the mother had been rescued, having been seen with her family members. There was apparently a shootout where two of the kidnappers were killed. However, the father is still missing and a search still continues. A bounty of $48,500 has been offered for information regarding the whereabouts of the father. Both the police and military have been deployed, with a huge operation ongoing. The Colombian president has also reportedly spoken with the player and reassured him of the search operations.
Colombia WNT extends support to Luis Diaz
Luis Diaz was obviously not present for Liverpool’s game against Nottingham Forest, and instead teammate Diogo Jota held up his jersey after scoring a goal. The fans at Anfield also sang Diaz’s name throughout the game.
Additionally, the Colombian women’s national team showed their support for the player. Before their game against the United States of America’s women’s team, the players held up Luis’ jersey for the national team during the national anthem. Though they lost 3-0, the gesture has been called ‘classy’ and ‘thoughtful’ by many fans.
The Colombian national team tweeted on X, “We ask the captors of Luis Manuel DĂaz, father of Luis DĂaz, to release him now, without conditions. Football is peace. Lucho, we are with you. Colombia is with you.”
Luis Diaz is not expected to be in the Liverpool squad for their clash against Bournemouth on Wednesday in the Carabao Cup. We hope that the player’s father is rescued as soon as possible.
