Erling Haaland is a goal merchant that scores for fun. He did it at Borussia Dortmund. He did it at Red Bull Salzburg. He did it at Molde. He did it during his time with the Bryne youth academy and is now doing it at Manchester City. In three matches this season, he has already registered three goals, one of the highest in the League.
Erling Haaland has attained another significant milestone in his career, beating teammate Kevin Be Bryune and the ex-Tottenham goal merchant Harry Kane to a highly prestigious award.
Haaland beats De Bruyne and Kane for prestigious PFA Award
The award known as the Professional Footballers’ Association Men’s Player of the Year, often referred to as the PFA Men’s Players’ Player of the Year or simply Player of the Year, is a yearly honour bestowed upon the player who is deemed to have performed most outstandingly throughout the year in English football.
The PFA Awards is always a special occasion, recognising the outstanding performers from every division and being voted for by the players. Past recipients of the Player of this Award include notable names such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Suárez, and Mohamed Salah. The present titleholders are Mohamed Salah from Liverpool and Sam Kerr from Chelsea.
This year, Erling Haaland triumphs over Kevin De Bruyne and Harry Kane, securing the Men’s PFA Players’ Player of the Year award. The 23-year-old Manchester City striker beat his teammate De Bryune and the ex-Tottenham talisman Harry Kane after scoring a total of 52 goals in all competitions last season, seeing City off to their first-ever treble win.
During his debut Premier League season, Haaland showcased remarkable goalscoring prowess by tallying 36 goals in the highly competitive Premier League. This achievement shattered the enduring record of Andy Cole and Alan Shearer, who had scored 34 goals in the 1993-94 and 1994-95 seasons – when there were 42 matches instead of the current 38.
Notably, he was awarded the highest goal scorer in the Champions League with 12 impressive goals, coinciding with City’s historic maiden triumph in Europe’s premier competition. In a remarkable feat, he contributed to City’s conquest of the FA Cup, enabling them to become just the second team in English football history to clinch the coveted treble.
Erling Haaland, 23, was also nominated for the Men’s PFA Player’s Young Player of the Year award, but he lost this one to Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, who is 21 years old and also had an outstanding 2023/24 season, despite winning no trophies. The pair were each named in the Premier League Team of Year, alongside the likes of Martin Odegaard, Kane, and De Bruyne.
How many goals has Haaland scored for Manchester City?
It’s reasonable to affirm that Haaland wasted no time adjusting to the highly competitive atmosphere of the Premier League after his significant transfer from Borussia Dortmund.
Although he initially failed to make an impact during his official debut in the Community Shield match against Liverpool, he swiftly demonstrated his capabilities in his inaugural Premier League appearance by netting a pair of goals against West Ham. Since the West Ham match, he’s scored in almost every match for City, winning them the treble.
In the 2023/24 season, Erling Haaland has already netted three times in three matches, while in the previous 2022/23 season, he scored 49 times and registered eight assists all together.
