Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola blames travel issues for potential title setback ahead of Newcastle United clash

While Pep Guardiola is regarded as arguably the best soccer manager in football at the moment, he doesn’t hold back when it comes to throwing subtle digs at authorities. Whether it’s the English FA or Premier League officials, Guardiola always fires at whatever he perceives as a hindrance to his success at Manchester City.

Manchester City have dominated the Premier League, similar to how United did under Sir Alex Ferguson, but Pep wants the domination to continue for as long as he’s there. The City boss recently hit out at travel issues as he rumps up reasons why it may be more difficult for his team to win titles this season.

Manchester City boss blames travel issues for potential title setback

Pep Guardiola has dominated the Premier League since taking the reigns at the Etihad Stadium in 2016, and rightly so. The Spaniard has led City to several Premier League titles and a historic treble last season as they won the FA Cup, Premier League, and UEFA Champions League for the first time in their history.

They only missed out on the Carabao Cup, something they have the chance to win this season, but they have to beat Newcastle in a crunch game tonight. According to Pep Guardiola, the Newcastle game may pose a greater threat to their success this season as travel schedules mean that his team doesn’t have enough time to prepare for upcoming games.

“After the game, we cannot come back by plane because of a problem with the planes,” the City boss said in his pre-match press conference. “We don’t have a plane to travel back, so we have to take a bus. It’s two or three hours later that we will arrive here – so, so late, arriving on Thursday. The day after, Friday, we travel to Wolves, so that’s what you have to think about. Then we go to Germany to play RB Leipzig in the Champions League next week. That’s a really important game for us because we know what it means to be able to win there to qualify for the next stage,” Pep Guardiola concluded.

Pep Guardiola must understand that other teams have to go through the same thing, especially the ones playing in the Champions League away from home next week.

Newcastle boost confidence with record-breaking rout ahead of City clash

Newcastle recorded one of the biggest wins in Premier League history on Sunday as they beat a shattered Sheffield United side 8-0. Up until that point, the Magpies had been struggling in the league, but that thumping 8-0 win would have them a world of good to their confidence heading into the EFL Cup clash against City today.

What was most exciting about Newcastle’s weekend victory was that they had eight different goalscorers for the eight goals they scored. They’ll need a similar performance if they want to get any result out of tonight’s clash with City.
