A few raised eyebrows were indeed seen when assessing Antony’s lackluster displays at Manchester United, especially compared to his world-class performance at the Brazilian club. Critics were quick to point out his meagre tally of eight goals in 58 appearances for the English side, further fueling concerns about his overall impact and productivity on the pitch.
Just recently, Manchester United icon calls out Antony for ‘embarrassing’ behavior during a heated matchup against Manchester City, but Antony has insisted that constructive criticism is what he and the team need now.
Antony delivers savage reply to critiques
Antony and several others have agreed on the raving instability that Manchester United is currently experiencing this season. However, in addition to this, he has accused the Manchester United legends of not helping the matter at hand with their “never constructive criticism.” While at it, he labels their comments “malicious and unfair.
It’s been a woeful season for the Samba star at the Theatre of Dreams, failing to make a meaningful impact while United endure their turbulent form under Erik ten Hag.
The £85 million winger, signed from Ajax just last summer, hasn’t registered a single goal or assist in his last ten Premier League games, putting him firmly in the firing line and facing a stern criticism from former United legends in the TV studios.
Gary Neville took aim at the midfielder back in October, branding him ’embarrassing’ for kicking out at Jeremy Doku during United’s 3-0 defeat to Manchester City, and he has also been blasted by the likes of Rio Ferdinand and Paul Scholes down the years.
Antony has also now taken a swipe at pundits for being critical without offering any positives or without sending him messages of support during ‘a period of turbulence I am going through’.
Antony’s performance this season for Man Utd
In Antony, Manchester United have a dynamic winger who can light up the right-hand side of our attack. This would at least be the intention of the club to secure the services of the 23-year-old winger; however, he has not exactly lived up to expectations throughout his 58 appearances, and especially this season, for the club.
In the young winger’s defence, he has experienced some turbulence in his career this season as he faced a career-wrecking rape and sexual allegation. However, he has been free of all allegations, but his bad form remains.
Antony’s performance this season has raised concerns as he has failed to make a significant impact, contributing neither goals nor assists in the 14 appearances across various competitions, including the Champions League and the EFL Cup.
“Antony has attributed his bad performance to his lack of preseason games, saying: In Premier League, the game requires focus on the physical and mental side.
This is why it is essential to have a good pre-season, which I didn’t have an opportunity to participate in. I’m trying to run against time to be at the same level as my teammates.”
