Manchester United are in a tough spot right now. With many controversies in the club along with poor performances on the pitch, the club is still in confusion over who will takeover the club. There is even questions whether there will even be a takeover at all.
So far, there have been competition between two persons regarding the future ownership of the club. One is Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who is the British CEO of INEOS, and the other is Qatari businessman and royal family member Sheikh Jassim. Despite multiple rounds of bidding and many days of talking, the Glazers’ still haven’t chosen a winner among these two candidates.
Qatari bid for Manchester United takeover remains unchanged
Amidst all the confusion and inaction by the Glazer family who own Manchester United, the Qataris remain committed to their original bid amount and structure. According to Sky Sports, despite the Qatari’s competition Sir Jim Ratcliffe offering an improvised offer.

Both parties had made final offers worth £5 billion, with Sheikh Jassim seeking full control of the club. He also promised the fans to renovate the iconic Old Trafford stadium which is in dire need of a renovation. Furthermore, the training grounds will also be renovated and he will significantly increase transfer spending. His offer also includes clearing all of the massive debt the club has accumulated over the years and he will also improve many other facilities for the club and it’s fans.
When Sheikh Jassim offered his final bid worth £5 billion, he had warned that this would be the last offer. And it seems that he is true to his word, as the Qatari consortium has no intentions of improving its initial offer.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s change in plans
Sir Jim Ratcliffe on the other hand is also frustated with the lack of progress in the takeover issue, and has decided to offer something more attractive to the Glazers.
Instead of sticking to his original bid of £5 billion for only the Glazer’s stake of the club, which is at 69%, Ratcliffe has decided to change his stance. He is now looking to buy a minor stake which means the Glazer family will still be in charge of the club.
The Glazer family’s two brothers, Joel and Avram, are hesitant to sell the club at all and want to stay there. This way, the offer from Ratcliffe may seem more favorable to them. However, fans want to see the Glazers fully go away from the club, as fans in the US have proven this stunt.
Rumors suggest that the Manchester United takeover winner could be announced by mid-October. But seeing the inaction of the Glazer family over the months, this could be wrong. Manchester United fans will hope for a change to the club finally being announced, as they are in dire need of new funds.
