Manchester United Transfer News: After just 62 appreances in 3-years, £35m Donny Van de Beek’s tenure reportedly ends at Old Trafford

Donny Van de Beek joined Manchester United from Ajax during Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s tenure as manager, with the aim of creating some competition for Bruno Fernandes amongst others, but unfortunately, the Dutch international has failed to live up to expectations. Hence, United initially made an unsuccessful attempt to get rid of Van de Beek in the summer.

Donny has been struck with serious injuries, including the knee injury he suffered in January, contributing to his unavailability and lack of consistent fitness, but his nightmare Manchester United days are set to be over as he is expected to make a move to Eintracht Frankfurt soon.

Donny van de Beek, the 26-year-old midfielder from Manchester United, has reached an agreement to embark on a loan spell with Eintracht Frankfurt starting in January. Van de Beek’s contract is set to expire in the summer of 2025. Hence, he will continue to train with the Manchester United squad until the finalization of his transfer. During this period, he will also remain eligible for selection for United’s fixtures.

After making a £35 million ($46 million) switch from Ajax to United in 2020, the midfielder has experienced limited playing time, featuring in only 62 matches for the club. Out of those, a mere 23 were started, highlighting the challenges he has faced in establishing a consistent role within the team.

Donny Van de Beek’s performances for Manchester United

Having joined United in 2020, Van de Beek made a significant impact, showcasing his prowess by scoring ten goals and contributing 11 assists in 37 appearances during the preceding season. His stellar performances played a pivotal role in guiding the Dutch side, under the management of Erik ten Hag, who is currently at the helm of Manchester United, to the Champions League semi-final, a feat not achieved since 1997.

Nevertheless, Van de Beek has struggled to secure a prominent role, featuring in just 62 appearances, where he managed to score two goals and contribute two assists. His loan move to Everton in January 2022 aimed at revitalizing his form, but he saw limited action with only seven appearances and a solitary goal to his name.

While it can be argued in his defense that his less than stellar record at Manchester United has been significantly impacted by frequent injuries, including a long-term knee injury that has sidelined him since January 2023.

Manchester United will be facing Liverpool in an exciting Premier League match this Sunday. Will Bruno Fernandes be absent due to suspension? If so, can we expect to see Donny van de Beek in action? Please feel free to leave a comment in the comment section.
