Mario Balotelli responds to Zlatan Ibrahimovic criticism with one gesture

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is one of the world’s best soccer players and retired from the sport last season. In his playing career, he showed himself to be a mentality monster and a great performer at all his clubs.

But he was even more famous for his trash talking off the pitch and the various hilarious stories about him. He often used to criticize his teammates and other people, for example, not hesitating to face up to Pep Guardiola. Recently, he targeted another former teammate of his who also decided to hit back.

That player is Mario Balotelli, with whom Zlatan shared the pitch for Inter Milan between 2007 and 2009. Recently, the former Swedish striker had an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport regarding a lot of topics.

When asked about former teammate Ballotelli, he answered, “Balotelli? He had so many opportunities to take advantage of his talent and change his future. He never did, that’s the truth.”

Ballotelli did not seem to like the comments, however, and decided to take it to social media. He shared a picture of himself on his Instagram story with the Champions League trophy he won in 2010 with Inter Milan. This was a cheeky dig at Ibrahimovic’s own failure to ever win a Champions League trophy in his career, despite his vast trophy cabinet.

To make sure Zlatan saw his story, he tagged the Swede and even shared three love emojis.

Ironically, Ibrahimovic had left Inter the season before, and if he had stayed, he could also have won the trophy alongside Super Mario.

Balotelli himself currently plays for Turkish club Adana Demirspor, a stark difference from the big clubs he has played at, which merits Zlatan’s words in a way.

Reviewing the trophy cabinet of Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has had a long career, playing for many illustrious clubs like Malmo, Ajax, Juventus, Inter Milan, Barcelona, AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, and LA Galaxy. Playing for all these clubs all these years means he has a very big trophy cabinet.

In total, he has won 32 trophies, which makes him one of the most successful players in the sport. He has won league trophies in four nations—Spain, Netherlands, Italy, and France—and, in total, boasts a total of 12 league titles.

He also has 18 different domestic cup trophies, a massive achievement. Despite playing for many big clubs, the UCL trophy has always been out of Zlatan’s hands. Though he still has some European trophies, winning a UEFA Super Cup at Barcelona and a Europa League title with Manchester United, the FIFA Club World Cup trophy won at Barcelona is his only international club title. Unfortunately, Ibrahimovic has never won anything with Sweden at the international level as well.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic may have a big trophy cabinet, but he will always regret not having the UCL trophy, as Super Mario perfectly reminded him.
