Markieff Morris talks about Nikola Jokic’s violent foul
In a furious exchange between Markieff Morris and Nikola Jokic in November 2021, Morris fouled Jokic at halfcourt, resulting in a heated exchange. While the initial foul appeared to be minor, Jokic was irritated and responded by charging Morris from behind and brutally shoulder-checking him to the ground.
Morris was left agonizing in pain following the incident, which resulted in major injuries that kept him unavailable for 58 matches. In response to this incident, the NBA penalized the Joker by suspending him for one game and fining Keef $50,000 for aggravating the conflict.
Morris recently described the incident honestly on an episode of ‘All The Smoke’. He called Jokic’s actions a “sucker shot,” emphasizing the force of the collision and whiplash he endured. Morris expressed lasting resentment over the incident and implied that Jokic would face repercussions for his actions.

Despite being allowed to play only two weeks after the incident, Morris said the Miami Heat kept him away from the court, solely for precautionary reasons. Markieff’s remarks have shed light on the intensity of the altercation and its lasting impact on him.
Markieff Morris paid $50k despite getting fouled
Following a heated incident between Nikola Jokic and Markieff Morris during a game between the Denver Nuggets and the Miami Heat, the NBA took action. Jokic was suspended for one game without pay for what the NBA called a “forceful shove” from behind on Morris. This incident occurred as a consequence of Jokic’s reaction to a foul from Morris that the NBA had already classified as a Flagrant-2.
Morris, on the other hand, was fined $50,000 for his role in starting the fight but did not face punishment. In addition, Jimmy Butler of the Miami Heat was fined $30,000 for “attempting to escalate the altercation” and refusing to assist with an NBA Security interview regarding the on-court incident.
Morris’ hard and unjustified foul on Jokic in the final minute of a one-sided game had originally triggered the brawl. Joker replied by shoving Morris from behind, causing Morris to tumble to the ground and suffer whiplash. Both players and coaches were outraged by the event, with Heat HC Erik Spoelstra calling it “dangerous” and “uncalled for.”
The altercation exposed the implications of escalating basketball conflicts, as well as the NBA’s pledge to player security and fairness.
