The Baltimore Ravens and Washington Commanders participated in their second of two joint practices on Wednesday. Following a series of fights on Tuesday, Wednesday’s camp also witnessed two more significant altercations, albeit the rest of practice ended on a positive note. Besides heated fights, the Ravens’ star cornerback Marlon Humphery had to digest an ugly injury that might keep him out of the roster for the foreseeable future.
Besides Humphrey, the Ravens’ No.2 CB Rock Ya-Sin is also struggling with a knee injury. The 25-year-old Damarion Williams also underwent a second surgery on his ankle just a few days ago. It might not be season-ending, but he is also expected to delay the start of the 2023 campaign.
Marlon Humphrey Injury Update
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Marlon has been struggling with an unnamed foot injury which would require him to have surgery today, albeit the incident shouldn’t hold him out for a prolonged period.
#Ravens All-Pro CB Marlon Humphrey is dealing with a foot injury and he's expected to have surgery today, sources say. The hope is he's back in a little over a month. So, out for the first couple games. https://t.co/gkCiVoGuI3

Coach John Harbaugh shared the positive news saying his injury is not long-term, albeit he didn’t reveal if the Pro Bowler would be able to play the regular season opener game against the Houston Texans on September 10.
“There’s no long-term concern, and that’s good. There’s plenty of short-term concern. We’ve got to look at that, and it starts with the guys you have. We have guys that are ready to play.”
Ravens middle linebacker Roquan Smith said the defense will lack much potential in the absence of the 2019 first-team All-Pro saying, “It definitely hurts the defense when a leader like Marlon is not out there with us. I know he’ll get back as soon as he can, and we’ll pick up the slack when he’s not out there.”
The Crimson Tide alum suffered the injury during the joint practice with the Commanders on Tuesday and could not join the practice session on Wednesday.
How important is CB Marlon Humphery for the Ravens?
Humphrey might be called the second-most important troop for Baltimore after their starting quarterback Lamar Jackson. He has earned the Pro Bowl accolade in three of the past four years and made his third Pro Bowl last season after recording three sacks, 71 tackles, three interceptions along with two fumble recoveries as well as one forced fumble in 17 games.
The 27-year-old vet has been in Baltimore throughout his first six NFL seasons and established himself as a reliable presence at the cornerback position. He enlisted his name as one of three players in the Ravens’ history to reach double digits in interceptions (12) and forced fumbles (13) besides former legends Ray Lewis and Ed Reed.
He was also the only Baltimore’s CB to record a PFF coverage grade over 70.0 last season, beating Marcus Peters who managed to get a coverage grade over 61.0 earlier.
