Max Verstappen has proved once again why he is labeled as ‘Super-Max’ by fans and critics alike. He was able to overcome great difficulty; the new street circuit threw at him and emerged as the final victor. Max Verstappen has been breezing through the 2023 season as if he were racing in ‘easy mode’.
Las Vegas GP has been a chaotic nightmare since day 1, and there were many drivers like Carlos Sainz and even Max Verstappen himself who got involved in incidents during the race. However, there was a certain move that caught Max Verstappen’s attention.
Verstappen Calls George Russell’s Overtake a Surprise
Max Verstappen was already battling penalties and the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc to secure a win right from the early stages of the Las Vegas GP. But during lap 25 in turn 12, he had a crash with George Russell which led to minor damage for Verstappen and a penalty for George Russell. Max did not try to blame it on Russell however and simply calling it a racing incident which arose from the hard racing and overtakes.
“That’s always a tricky one. I mean, he didn’t do that on purpose,” Verstappen explained of the collision to media.
“I think he just didn’t expect me to pass him into that corner. Because that’s how it felt like, I put it on the inside and he just turned in like there was no one there. So I guess he just didn’t see me.” Max Verstappen was surprisingly understanding and accepted that George Russell had no choice in this case, the penalty awarded to him was only a case of misjudgment and called off any kind allegations. The Las Vegas GP had a lot of overtakes and the lead of the race changed numerous times.
Max Verstappen takes 18th win of 2023
Contrary to public opinion, the Las Vegas GP turned out to be actually interesting and led to a lot of drama, right from the start of the race. But, ultimately it was Max Verstappen who turned Lewis Hamilton’s prophecies into reality and took away yet another win for this season.
The race was a tight battle giving the fans all kind of excitement they had missed over the past weeks and Ferraris showed us an incredible qualifying performance. For the first time, there were hunches that Red Bull is going to lose but Max Verstappen turned up as their savior. He not only won the race, but he did so with a staggering penalty and car damage. Sergio Perez scored a podium confirming his P2 in driver’s championship giving Red Bull the icing of the cake.
