Max Verstappen has gathered widespread attention, gracing the covers of renowned magazines and engaging in interviews that spotlight his extraordinary reputation in the racing Industry. People often believe that his athletic abilities are inherited from his father, Jos Verstappen, who was an extraordinary F1 driver in his own right.
According to the Red Bull driver, Jos’s rigorous training sessions played a vital role in shaping him into the accomplished racer he is today. However, a recent interview session featuring Max on the cover of the prestigious TIME Magazine drew a humorous response from the former cyclist Marijn de Vries.
Verstappen breaks 60-year Dutch record by gracing TIME cover
The Dutch Sensation has recently appeared on the cover of TIME Magazine, marking him as the first Dutchman in 60 years or so to get involved in such a gracious act. However, as per a recent report by F1Maximaal, not everyone was equally excited about his feature.
Former Dutch cyclist Marijn de Vries claimed that the Red Bull star’s interview gave her “stomach aches.”
Former cyclist’s hilarious take on Max Verstappen’s interview
Verstappen had an extremely tough childhood, with his father maintaining daily schedules for practices and resorting to harsh methods if he failed to do so. Jos Verstappen has always claimed that to shape Verstappen’s future, a strict childhood was mandatory.
The three-time World Champion himself admitted that most of his victories were due to his father’s hard work and consistency in training him. However, de Vries believes that his childhood was crucially snatched away from him.
De Vries said, “I read and reread the passages. And I don’t know which gives me more stomach ache: what is said or what is not said. Of the thought of Max not being allowed to run around and play. Or of Max being left at the gas pump.”
Although de Vries admits that his upbringing has been quite successful, she also questions if all of this fame was truly what Verstappen wanted, considering that the Dutchman has expressed his dissatisfaction with the sport several times.
She said, “Max has become exactly what Jos wanted. He is the very best, filthy rich, world-famous.” But the problem lies when Jos expresses that all of this is what he wants, while Verstappen remains quiet.
The former Red Bull driver has asked more than once if all of these hectic schedules and consistent travel were even worth it in the first place. However, Verstappen has been a fan of racing since his childhood, and his interest fueled Jos to train him further into his current situation as a World Champion.
