Max Verstappen’s mechanic debates his status as the best F1 driver following Belgium Grand Prix

Max Verstappen is having a record-breaking season in Formula 1. He has won eight races in a row, and if he wins his home race at Zandvoort, he will tie Sebastian Vettel for the most consecutive wins in F1 history. Verstappen and his team, Red Bull, also broke the record for most consecutive wins by a constructor set by McLaren and have added 2 more wins on top of it. The Dutchman has passed the legendary Ayrton Senna in terms of wins.

Verstappen has been considered by many experts to be one of the best drivers of all time, but one of his own mechanics thinks otherwise, as he thinks the quality of a driver can’t be gauged by the number of wins.

Verstappen falls short of being the best F1 driver

Max Verstappen is having a dominant season in Formula 1 in 2023. He has won 12 races so far, including 8 in a row, and is well on his way to winning his third world championship. Verstappen and his team, Red Bull, have also set a number of records this season, including the most consecutive wins by a driver and a constructor. Verstappen’s performance in 2023 has been nothing short of incredible. He has been consistently fast and has made few mistakes, showing great maturity and racecraft, even when under pressure from his rivals.

Despite all that, according to GPblog, a Brazilian driver was chosen to be the best F1 driver instead of the two-time world champion Max Verstappen by Calum Nicholas, one of Verstappen’s mechanics at Red Bull. In the Track Limits podcast, Calum Nicholas said that in terms of just passion and soul, Senna has to be considered the best. he further added to that by saying that the number of titles he won is believed to be less important than his belief and drive.

He concluded by saying that Senna is considered an amazing character by all of us, and he is seen as a ruthless winner with many admirable qualities.

What is Max Verstappen’s win streak?

As of August 9, 2023, Max Verstappen had won eight consecutive races in the 2023 Formula 1 season. He won the Bahrain Grand Prix and the Australian Grand Prix at the start and then went on to win every single race after Azerbaijan, which was won by his teammate Sergio Perez. He is currently on a record-breaking run of consecutive wins and is only one win away from tying Sebastian Vettel’s record of nine consecutive wins.

Verstappen’s win streak has put him in a commanding position in the Drivers’ Championship. He currently has a 125-point lead over the nearest driver, his teammate, Sergio Perez. If he can continue his winning streak, he will be well on his way to winning his third world championship.
