As the purchase of sneakers is viewed more as an investment rather than a mere acquisition, shoe collectors and memorabilia aficionados are reveling at the prospect of the latest auction featuring a set of prized Air Jordan shoes used by Jordan himself. These items are bound to increase in value, regardless of the outcome.

The shoes that are going to be put up for auction are part of a collection called the ‘Dynasty Collection,’ and they include the most iconic Air Jordan sneakers worn by Michael Jordan himself in the title-clinching games of the star’s career.

According to the auction house that is going to be managing the sale, the prestigious collection consists of an Air Jordan VI (1991), Air Jordan VII (1992), Air Jordan VIII (1993), Air Jordan XI (1996), Air Jordan XII (1997), and Air Jordan XIV (1998).

Sotheby’s, the auction house who are in possession of the sneakers, stated that the collection will be the highlight of the live auction entitled, “The One” which celebrates the theme, “exceptional objects that exemplify human ingenuity, achievement, and excellence.”

The auction is set to take place on the 2nd of February and experts suggest that this ‘Holy Grail’ of sneakers could accumulate a massive 10 million USD. However, this is not the first time Jordan memorabilia has reached such numbers. Sotheby’s has reported multiple sales of Jordan collectibles that will do nothing but shock the mind.

There is a vast collection of Michael Jordan’s memorabilia ranging from iconic cars used by the superstar to game-winning shoes and title-winning jerseys with price tags. Jordan’s 1998 Air Jordan which he used in the NBA Finals against the Utah Jazz, fetched over 2.2 million USD making them the most expensive trainers ever sold.

The trainers, Air Jordan 13 reached its peak popularity when it was highlighted in ‘The Last Dance’ documentary, which featured the glorious days of Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls in the 90s.

The most expensive Michael Jordan memorabilia is the legend’s 1998 Bulls jersey which he wore in the first game against the Utah Jazz. The jersey was once again put up for auction by Sotheby’s and it fetched a whopping 10.1 million USD making it the most expensive game-worn memorabilia ever sold at an auction in September, 2022. These numbers just bring to light the influence the basketball legend Michael Jordan has on the basketball world, an influence that transcends sports as a whole.
