Mercedes Moné urged to take time off due to “not medically cleared”

After joining AEW earlier this year, Mercedes Moné made a splash at March’s “Big Business” Dynamite event, where she made her first appearance. Fans were becoming excited when she was announced as the opponent for the TBS champion at the next AEW Double or Nothing. But things became dicey when a wrestling veteran revealed that Mercedes Moné should avoid live TV appearances until she gets medically cleared.

While competing at NJPW STRONG Resurgence in May of 2023, Moné hurt his ankle. Despite this, AEW put the former IWGP Women’s Champion in the ring for the first time, which made wrestling legend Tommy Dreamer upset. Speaking to Busted Open Radio, Dreamer voiced her worry over Moné’s lack of in-ring activity after her assault during an interview segment.

As transcribed by Ringsidenews, the ECW legend said, “It’s a disconnect, but if I’m not medically cleared, but then somebody jumped me from behind and I’m already hurt and then I get hurt again, and then I’m back the next week? If you can’t do physical stuff, then maybe just kind of disappear to come back again?”

Despite Dreamer’s concerns, Mercedes Moné’s in-ring debut at the upcoming Double or Nothing event appears to be on track. To build excitement for her first championship match, Moné has already begun setting the stage by sending a message to her AEW opponent.

Mercedes Mone sets up her AEW in-ring debut with a short message

Mercedes Moné will be fighting for the TBS Championship in her first AEW match next month. She will be competing for the championship title at AEW Double or Nothing 2024. Willow Nightingale was officially announced as Moné’s opponent for the championship battle yesterday, just after being crowned as TBS champion.

Recently, AEW promoted Moné and Willow’s match on social media and former Sasha Bank took to Twitter to share the graphic and a message ahead of her AEW debut. She tweeted, “Always bet on #Moné.”

Notably, her last match was against Willow Nightingale, where Willow won the NJPW STRONG Women’s Title in May 2023. So, their upcoming showdown holds the promise of an exciting rematch in just a month. How excited are you to see these two powerhouses square off? Share your thoughts in the comment section.

Oh, hi, this is Md Robin Ahmed, a WWE fan and I everyday go through a slew of popular WWE stories on Sportszion. Watching Big Show's Showstopper was the beginning of my passion for WWE, though I have to say that his Chokeslam is not one of my favorite moves. Over time, my love for professional wrestling has intensified, mostly due to the Shield, and my all-time favorite wrestler in WWE is Big Dog. I would give everything to be able to be within a few feet of him to witness his iconic Superman Punch and Spear. My major is engineering, but I'm most happy when I'm doing something artistic that doesn't put me under any pressure. Watching them wrestle and discuss their matches is always fun for me. And I've finally discovered a career that gives me fun since it allows me to with my dream heroes lifestyle. So, Welcome! I'd love to hear from you on LinkedIn and Facebook.
