Michael Cole reveals altered WWE Elimination Chamber plans due to sea pirates

The WWE Elimination Chamber is poised to kick off tomorrow at the Optus Stadium in Perth, Australia. After an absence of nearly six years, WWE is making its return to Australia with this premium live event. The last time WWE held a pay-per-view in Australia was in 2018, with WWE hosting the event titled “Super ShowDown.”

Just hours before the start of the Elimination Chamber match, Michael Cole dropped a bombshell revelation, stating that the event was on the brink of cancellation due to an unexpected invasion by sea pirates.

Michael Cole opens on WWE changing Elimination Chamber plans

The Elimination Chamber is know for its iconic, chamber matches where six superstars compete inside a massive steel structure, with two starting the match and four others locked in pods, waiting for their chance to enter the fray. The last man standing wins the match and a coveted championship opportunity.

The entire match will be held under a massive cell structure, not like the cells used in the ‘Hell in a Cell’ matches, but these cells are exclusively built for the Chamber match. It weighs 16 tons, has 16 frames, and usually takes a 50-foot flatbed truck to carry it when it’s used.

During the Elimination Chamber press event today, the lead commentator of RAW, Michael Cole opened up about the involvement of the sea pirates during the transpoprtation of Cell structure from USA to Australia.

Cole said, “A structure which took over a month to get here. Originally it was supposed to ship through the Suez Canal, but pirates ended those plans. So it was sent to Miami, transported via truck to Los Angeles, taken by ship to Sydney, and then by train to Perth.”

Cole revealed that the original plans for the transportation was via Suez Canal, but the involvements of sea pirates, made WWE to drop the plans. However, pirates in that region forced the shipment to turn back to Miami and take an alternate route to Perth.

For the first time ever, WWE decided to bring the Elimination Chamber to Australia, as part of its global expansion and outreach. Since the return of the Rock to WWE at the Day 1 of Monday Night RAW in January 1, the People’s Champion was rumored to make his presence to the event. Many fans wondered if The Rock was going to challenge Reigns for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 40, in a dream match that has been teased for years.

According to reports, in today’s press event at Perth, the COO of WWE, Triple H, who is having a controversy with The Rock, confirmed that The Rock will not be appearing at the WWE Elimination Chamber event in Perth.

The Rock’s plans for the event changed after his involvement in the storyline between Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns. He claimed that he needs to be in the main event of WrestleMania 40 rather than facing the Royal Rumble winner, The American Nightmare. With Cody and Seth Rollins scheduled to appear at the event, The Rock’s absence hasn’t led to any disappointment.
