Mike Florio’s latest Brock Purdy take draws Tom Brady comparison

From being selected as the last draft pick and rising from the third quarterback on the roster to becoming the starter for the San Francisco 49ers, Brock Purdy has had an incredible career thus far. Mr. Irrelevant shook off the embarrassing tag by leaving no stone unturned to emerge as a potential MVP contender this year after returning from an injury.

While the young star is giving his best effort to push his team toward an upward trajectory, many 49ers fans are still having trouble embracing him as the franchise QB. Meanwhile, Mike Florio, an NFL analyst of Pro Football Talk, has found another unusual reason behind Purdy’s qualification to be a franchise QB.

Mike Florio’s bizarre Brock Purdy take

During his Friday morning show, Florio along with Peter King, renowned national columnist, had a discussion about San Francisco’s squad. However, their analysis took an interesting turn when the NFL analyst said Purdy‘s name is too weird to be listed as the QB1 on the roster.

“Brock Purdy is just kind of a weird name, it doesn’t sound like a franchise quarterback name. Purdy is a little too close to ‘Turdy’. I just think people have a hard time looking at that name and saying that’s a franchise quarterback,” he said.

King didn’t agree with his comment and called him out instantly, saying it was the most ridiculous point he had ever made. Nevertheless, Mike remained unwavering in his take and stated that many people would agree with his statement.

“I guarantee you I’m not the only person that’s like, ‘Well, that’s not a quarterback name,’ when he first landed on the radar screen last year. It makes people inclined to say, ‘Let’s wait and see.'”

Many NFL fans slammed Florio for his controversial statement and some even drew the name of Tom Brady to argue on this topic.

A fan wrote,”Then explain how Tom “Lady” became the greatest QB of all time.”

Peter also invoked the name of Joe Montana to refute Florio’s argument, stating that even if Joe Montana’s name had been Joe F’ing Horsecrap, he still would have been one of the greatest signal-callers of all time.

49ers QB’s streak continues

The 49ers are 3-0 after securing victories over the Pittsburgh Steelers (30-7), Los Angeles Rams (30-23), and New York Giants (30-12) this season. This marks the ninth time they have achieved this record, with the most recent occurrence in 2019. Additionally, San Francisco’s recent 30-point performance against the Giants extends their streak to six consecutive regular-season games in which they have scored 30 or more points.

Furthermore, Purdy’s team is currently enjoying the longest active winning streak in the league, having won 13 consecutive regular-season games since Week 8 of 2022. This streak is also the second-longest in the team’s regular-season history, with the longest being 15 games from Week 12 of the 1989 season to Week 10 of the 1990 season.
