The 2024 MLS season is set to kick off in February and Inter Miami led by Argentine icon Lionel Messi is aiming to improve on their previous campaign. Last season, their bottom finish in the league table resulted in an early end to their season, as they failed to progress into the playoffs.
Miami is gearing up for the upcoming season with pre-season preparations in Saudi Arabia, competing in the Riyadh Season Cup. As the club plans to conclude their pre-season activities with visits to Hong Kong and Japan, they are actively seeking to strengthen their midfield ranks ahead of the league opener.
Inter Miami targets young Argentine Federico Redondo
According to reports, Inter Miami’s boss Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino is interested in bringing the young Argentine midfield talent Federico Redondo to DRV PNK Stadium. The 21-year-old is currently playing for Argentinos Juniors, a top-division club in Argentina. Federico is the son of Fernando Redondo, the former Real Madrid and AC Milan legend.
The defensive midfielder, who has made 58 appearances for his club, is one of the standout talents on the team. Known for his technical soundness and exceptional vision, he is a dynamic and versatile player capable of switching from a defensive to a central role in the midfield.
In fact, his skill in creating opportunities and navigating tight spaces as a holding midfielder stands out as a significant aspect of his game.
Consequently, his potential move to the Florida club might add a fresh dynamic to their squad, and securing a young midfielder like him promises future benefits. Amid American interest, Tyc Sports reports that AC Milan had also made inquiries about Federico Redondo.
Recently, Inter Miami unveiled their new away kit for the upcoming MLS season during the naming ceremony of Royal Caribbeanâs Icon of the Seas. In their efforts to bolster the squad, they have signed another former Barcelona player and proven prolific scorer, Luis Suarez, to team up alongside captain Messi, Busquets, and Jordi Alba.
Inter Miami has no plans for Medina or Palavecino at this time
Previously, the Florida-based team attempted to sign the highly rated Argentine midfielder Cristian Medina from Boca Juniors, but the club declined the offer from the MLS side. They also showed interest in River Plate’s experienced midfielder AgustĂn Palavecino.
However, it is now reported that they no longer hold interest in these two players, following a change in their transfer priorities.
After expressing interest in Federico Redondo, Inter Miami has abandoned the idea of acquiring either Medina or Palavecino from the Argentine league.
Instead, they are now focusing on a similar option in Redondo, whose contract with his current club is set to expire at the end of December 2024.
