This offseason marked a new era for the New York Jets following their acquisition of a number of the Green Bay vets including four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers, Adrian Amos, Tim Boyle, Allen Lazard, Randall Cobb, Malik Taylor, Billy Turner, and Adam Pankey.
The NY team is rumored to be interested in signing another former Packers player, to improve their offensive lineup even though they already have a whopping nine former Packers under contract.
Jets seek offensive line upgrade with David Bakhtiari
Bakhtiari stated that he did “miss” Rodgers following his spectacular exchange. Recently, though, there have been whispers that the veteran player may join his old teammate Rodgers with the Jets.
Nevertheless, the Packers’ general manager Brian Gutekunst dismissed all the rumors while saying bluntly that they would not do the same with David as they did with Aaron, to Ryan Wood of PackersNews.com. The GM was adamant about ruling out any chance of a deal, but it is unclear when and how the reports first surfaced.
“First of all, we’re not going to trade David. So just get that out of the way. So let’s just get that out of the way because I know there’s been a little bit of chatter about that, and it’s not going to happen.”
The Packers renegotiated Bakhtiari’s deal in March, moving between $7.5 million and $12 million in salary cap money, rather than opting to trade him.
Packers send Super Bowl Champ Rodgers to Jets
After an 18-season great run, the Packers and the former Super Bowl champion developed different perspectives and were prepared to split ways. Later, in exchange for the 13th, 42nd, and 207th picks in this year’s draft, the Packers dealt quarterback Aaron Rodgers to the Jets during the offseason.
They also got a conditional 2024 second-round pick, which, if their experienced player plays more than 65 percent of the offensive snaps in 2023, would rise to the first round.
Following the long-anticipated outcome, the Packers replaced Aarons with Jordan Love, while A-Rod was spotted living it up in New York City. Rodgers claimed that the Jets trade “rejuvenated” his life and his deal was “better” than he had anticipated.
However, both parties’ lives now seem to be contently positioned where they ought to be!
