Months after resembling Amy Winehouse, Venus Williams opens up on returning to “home away from home”

The William sisters have one of the most awe-inspiring stories from which they need to make a movie out of. Venus Williams and Serena Williams have both contributed greatly to the sport over the past three decades. Known to never give up, Queen V and her comebacks seem to never get old.

As the oldest active tennis player currently in the circuit, Venus Williams remains a legend cruising through her 29th year as a tennis professional. Even though her 2023 season has been ‘injury-plagued‘, she quickly recovered after a scare in the Wimbledon 2023 and is currently making a mark in the Cincinnati Open 2023.

Venus Williams discusses rehab schedule

At the beginning of 2023, Venus recalled her injury at Auckland Open that led to her withdrawing from the Australian Open. She joked, “I had already rehabbed a year before that. I always joke I’m a professional rehabber now.”

After this as well, she had to deal with hamstring and knee injuries through several long rehab sessions. However, just when people speculated that the GOAT’s career was done, she came back with tapes on her knees to fight her fight in Wimbledon 2023. Unfortunately, shortly after her comeback, the complex SW19 grass court cut her trip short.

Expressing her thoughts on her rehab journey, she commented: “I’m like, Okay, I’m ready to do my rehab again. So if I had not taken off that eight weeks, I probably could have made the French, but at some point, you need a break from it. So, right after Wimbledon, I went straight back to rehab. I felt like Amy Winehouse.”

Queen V jokingly compared her constant visits back to the physical rehab to the famous singer-songwriter Amy Winehouse, who was known to make constant visits to the rehab as well but for her drugs issues.

This win was long awaited as it is Venus Williams’s first win against a top 20-ranked player in 4 years. At 43 years old, Queen V is back up!

Venus approached the net after her win with the most content smile on her face. Succeeded into the next round of the Cincinnati Open 2023, she said, “I’m just always happy to be back in Cincinnati.
