Naomi Osaka expresses desire to win more Grand Slams, with sights set on Wimbledon, French Open, Paris Olympics

Consistency is the key to success. Naomi Osaka understands that. The grand slam champion sprung onto the tennis scene as a revelation when she won the 2018 US Open as a 21-year-old. She quickly gained confidence and had a series of spectacular runs that saw her win multiple grand slam titles.

However, a dip in form in 2021 and a subsequent break from tennis due to the birth of her first child with rapper Cordae left her with much to ponder about. She is now working on her comeback and has made a statement of intent by revealing her ambitions in her sport.

Winning a grand slam is the pinnacle of achievement in tennis. And to repeat that feat multiple times throughout one’s career is what turns a player into a champion. Noami Osaka strives to be a champion and create a legacy of her own and she revealed in detail what shift in mindset she made to achieve that feat.

Stating her ambitions in tennis, Noami said she wished to win all four grand slams along with an Olympic gold medal. She revealed that she wanted to understand the game better instead of merely playing by her instincts and just being herself.

Naomi has been a notable absence from tennis due to her commitments in her personal life and fans have missed the heydays of her impressive shotmaking on the tennis that saw her become a celebrity overnight.

She has been seen attending grand slam events such as the recently concluded US Open along with her partner and child. Witnessing fellow players compete and win major tournaments should spur Noami into striving to get back on the tennis court and add titles to her impressive tally of grand slam crowns.

How many Grand Slams has Naomi Osaka won?

Noami Osaka has won four grand slam titles to date. She first won the 2018 US Open as a 21-year-old and became the first Asian player in the history of tennis to top the WTA rankings. Her spectacular run after winning her first grand slam extended to the following Australian Open, where she defeated Petra Kvitova to lift her second title.

The Japanese tennis player became the first woman to win successive major singles titles since Serena Williams in 2015 and the first to win her first two in successive majors since Jennifer Capriati in 2001.

That feat of winning successive tournaments would be repeated the following year, when she won the 2020 US Open and the 2021 Australian Open.

Two first-round exits in the French Open and US Open, a third-round exit in the Australian Open and a withdrawal from Wimbledon in 2022 would signal a decline in form for Naomi and she would eventually drop out of all majors in 2023 to give birth to her daughter Shai.

“So I kind of like the feeling of having the responsibility of having to take care of Shai and wanting to show her around the world. I kind of feel more like I’m playing for her [Shai],” Osaka said to NHK when asked about her plans to make a comeback.

Noami credited her family for providing her with the required support and for being a rock for her to lean on during her lean phase. A comeback is on the cards for the Japanese professional and she is keen to succeed.
