With the NBA regular season in its final stretch, one missed step can lead to catastrophe. The Warriors’ play-offs prospect is hanging by a thread with the Rockets breathing down their neck with just a game behind.
But in spite of staying clear of the congestion, the Warriors have put themselves deeper into the hole as they lost to the Timberwolves. While losing against the Timberwolves is far from a shock result, the way the Warriors were dispatched is a matter of concern. To make things worse, Steve Kerr’s decision completely backfired and now he has to bear the burden of his deed.
Steve Kerr claims Warriors need to find Stephen Curry alternatives
The game between the Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves raised many eyebrows as the Warriors star Stephen Curry was subbed out of the game for eleven minutes although he returned to the court.
In the final minutes of the third quarter with the Warriors in the lead, Curry was sidelined. After missing 4 minutes of the quarter the sharpshooter went on to miss more minutes of the game even though he was ready to return. With around 6 minutes remaining of the final quarter, the 4-time NBA champion re-entered however, the tables had turned, and the game was out of control. From being in the lead, the Warriors failed to defend the lead and ended up losing the game to the Timberwolves by 110-114.
The Warriors head coach Steve Kerr without regretting his decision to sideline Curry for the upcoming fixture, said, “We can’t expect to just ride Steph game after game after game.”
The HC, who believes that Curry single handedly carries the team, justifying his reasons added “We’ve put the burden of this franchise on his shoulders for 15 years. We can’t expect him to play 35 minutes … If you want to say that him playing 30 minutes instead of 32 is a difference between a win and a loss, I totally disagree with that. We’re trying to win the game. And we’re trying to keep him fresh, too.”
The Warriors’ resilient leader played for 30 minutes and scored 31 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists which did not help the franchise to snatch the win in the crunch time. While talking to the reporters Curry expressed, “I want to play as many minutes as I’m fresh and able to, so I’m a little bit [surprised] knowing that they were going on a run.”
This loss recorded their sixth in the last ten games. Kerr must come up with an alternate plan for the franchise to succeed otherwise, if the Golden State fails to hold on to their spot, then they will lose the opportunity to the Houston Rockets who are vying for the tenth spot to enter the NBA play-ins.
Fans hilariously mock Steve Kerr’s assessment with Darvin Ham’s comments
Steve Kerr’s decision has cost the Warriors a great deal and just like the LA Lakers are facing similar issues without their star player, the 39-year-old LeBron James, the Dubs struggled without their talisman.
In the era of social media, the NBA community does not hold back from sharing their opinions and they did the same this time. The fans hilariously mocked the Warriors HC with Darvin Ham’s comments and here’s what they said on X (formerly Twitter):
A fan commented along with an angry emoji, “ride him till he retires!”
Another fan shared the HC Darvin Ham’s quote on LeBron James.
Calling Ham better than Kerr someone wrote, “Darvin Ham > Steve Kerr”
While another fan suggested by writing that Kerr should ask Ham how to make it work, “Oh yes he can. Just ask Darvin”
A fan wrote, “Kerr is a mediocre coach, i would swap him for Darvin Ham”
While another fan commented, “Hey Kerr you wanna coach Lebron?”
One of the comments read, “And Steve Kerr basically admitting, curry isn’t built like bron”
“I mean all of Lebron’s team have done it with him”, commented another fan.
A fan wrote on X, “they’ll never get the finals with this guy as the coach, literally the worst (crying emoji) FIRE him omg”
Someone sarcastically wrote, “IM SURE STEPH DOESN’T WANT TO MAKE PLAYOFFS, HE WILL SAY THANK U FOR SITTING ME KERR- GREAT JOB”
The Warriors will face the Miami Heat next at the Kaseya Center on March 26, trying to improve their 36-34 record and hold onto the play-in spot.
