Los Angeles Lakers star, LeBron James has a deep love for football which he has openly expressed on several occasions. He played football as a kid and has stated in an interview that he would have pursued a career in that sport if basketball didn’t work out for him. James continues to follow the sport actively and is very vocal about his opinions.
He regularly shares Instagram stories or tweets about football teams and players. He even had an opportunity to play in the NFL with his former favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys. King James currently supports the Cleveland Browns and has moved on from his former favorite team due to a difference of opinion.
LeBron James once turned down an NFL offer from the Cowboys
It is surprising to hear that LeBron James, the biggest basketball player on the planet used to be an all-state football player in high school, leaving many fans wondering what would have happened if the King decided to play another sport one day. But unlike the legendary Michael Jordan who tested his luck in baseball after his tremendous success in the NBA, LeBron never went down a path to try a different sport professionally.
However, he was very close to making that transition. Maverick Carter who is LeBron’s close friend and business partner also admitted that the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, Jerry Jones had even offered James a contract for the NFL team. During the 2011 NBA lockout, James gave a thought about trying out football professionally.
During his interview at the “Uninterrupted” Monday Night James stated that during the lockout he and his trainer started to actually train to become a football player. In his high school days at St. Vincent/St. Mary, he was scouted by Ohio State to join them but James decided to enroll in the NBA draft instead of going to college and it turned out to be the best decision he made.
LeBron James switched his favorite NFL team from Cowboys to Browns
In 2018, King James decided to change his favorite NFL team from the Dallas Cowboys to the Cleveland Browns. There were several reasons for the switch, but the main one was the difference of opinion between Bron and the Cowboys. The Cowboys had taken a heavily criticized stance on kneeling during the national anthem.
The team’s owner, Jerry Jones, stated that any player who knelt during the national anthem would be benched. This didn’t sit right with King James, as he was a vocal supporter of players who knelt during the national anthem. He even called the policy ‘disgusting’ and criticized Jones for his decision.
What do you think of Jerry Jones’s NFL offer to LeBron James? Can you imagine King James playing any other sport than Basketball? We are eager to hear your thoughts, so drop them down in the comments section and let us know.
