Today’s NBA trade news involves the Detroit Pistons and a potential move for their stars Marvin Bagley and Isaiah Livers. It has been reported that the Pistons are trying to strike a deal with the Washington Wizards very soon.
The Pistons are not having the greatest season in the NBA and desperately need a change. The current squad is not capable enough to even compete in the playoffs, as was made clear in several regular-season games.
Pistons strike trade deal with Wizards
The Detroit Pistons are sealing a trade deal with the Washington Wizards, as per many sources. It was reported that Marvin Bagley and Isaiah Livers would be leaving the Detroit camp for Washington. From Washington’s side, forwards Danilo Gallinari and Mike Muscala would be arriving in Detroit in exchange for the aforementioned players after the trade deal is completed.
Detroit has also offered two second-round picks to the Wizards, along with the two players mentioned before. This deal is a little bit more favorable for the Wizards, as they would be getting two players along with a few draft picks, which would come in handy in the upcoming NBA draft in June of this year. It would be interesting to see whether the two forwards from Washington would be able to make an impact and possibly change the poor performance of the Pistons this season.
Pistons projected to have $64 million in cap room
The Detroit Pistons are projected to have almost $64 million in cap room after this trade deal with the Washington Wizards. The clear cap space would allow the Detroit side to absorb more bad deals for assets or go after great players in free agency. The recent trade played a great part in freeing up that cap space, as Bagley was due $12.5 million in the next season and by trading him off to get Danilo Gallinari and Muscala, who both are on expiring deals, the Pistons will have more money to play with in the summer.
This is a great advantage gained by the Detroit camp, as it will allow them to be very versatile and flexible in signing or trading players in the summer window to start a total rebuilding phase. A full rework of the squad has become a necessity for the Pistons right now, especially after the dreadful performance this season and a laughable record of 3-36.
