As the year 2024 is upon us, so does the excitement and anticipation surrounding NBA trade rumors and gossip. This time, the spotlight is on guard Ryan Rollins of the Washington Wizards, as news broke out that he has been released by the team.
The trade season always brings a sense of intrigue, as anything can happen, and throughout NBA history, unexpected and surprising trades have transpired. With Ryan Rollins now on the market, the trade gossip mill is abuzz with speculation about which team will seize this opportunity and secure his talents.
Rollins Released by Wizards
The Washington Wizards have made a surprising move by releasing guard Ryan Rollins, according to recent reports. Rollins, who was acquired by the Wizards in a trade that involved Chris Paul and Jordan Poole, will now be on the hunt for a new team.
Rollins, a second-round pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, had a brief stint with the Golden State Warriors before being included in the trade that brought Jordan Poole to Washington. Unfortunately, he failed to find his footing with the Wizards, averaging just 4.1 points in 6.6 minutes over his 10-game tenure.
Born on July 3, 2002, Rollins is still just 21 years old and has plenty of potential. However, it seems that the Wizards are looking to explore other options at the guard position, and Rollins became the casualty of their decision.
With a salary of $1,719,864 this season, Rollins’ deal was not fully guaranteed beyond this year. The contract included a partial guarantee of $600,000 for the 2024/25 season, as reported by Spotrac.
As Rollins hits the open market, it remains to be seen if any teams will show interest in acquiring the young guard. For now, he will have to focus on developing his skills and proving himself elsewhere.
Rollins’ Short Stint with Washington Ends
The Washington Wizards have decided to release guard Ryan Rollins, ending his short stint with the team as Rollins, who has appeared in 10 games with Washington, couldn’t solidify his place in the roster.
Rollins’ last game with the team was a disappointing loss against the Oklahoma City Thunder, where Washington fell 128-136. Throughout the 2023-24 season, Rollins averaged 4.1 points, 1.1 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game.
Comparing his performance, Rollins’ shooting efficiency has been inconsistent. He had a field goal percentage of 52.0% but struggled from beyond the arc with a three-point percentage of 66.7%. His free throw percentage stood at 76.5%, and his effective field goal percentage was 56.0%.
Unfortunately for Rollins, his player efficiency rating was 11.0 and he contributed a negative win share of -0.1. These numbers ultimately led to the decision to part ways with the guard.
As Rollins becomes a free agent, it remains to be seen where his NBA journey will take him next. Either way, the young phenom hopes he can take his talent somewhere else where it is appreciated.
