Controversial Damar Hamlin video on NBC draws criticism

During the game on Sunday night between the Cincinnati Bengals and Buffalo Bills, the 25-year-old was caught in an unsavory moment by the NBC broadcasters. What happened was that the commentators were talking about his return from injury and how he had got his life back on track when the feed cut to Hamlin on the sidelines.

In that unfortunate moment, Hamlin was scratching his teeth and then swallowed what appeared to be a morsel he had pried out of his jaws. after what seemed like an eternity, the feed cut away to other clips involving Hamlin, and viewers were spared from watching any more of his oral escapades.

Soon after, a clip of the same went viral on social media which slammed the broadcasters for airing that moment. Netizens unloaded a barrage of comments on that particular tweet. One user quipped, “Let Football be the Show, we don’t need to be entertained with Storytime with the Chris & Mike. I Don’t want to see the announcers, I want to watch Football.”

Damar Hamlin’s terrifying heart attack

Earlier in the week, Damar Hamlin, Safety for the Buffalo Bills, shared an image of his with the 10 paramedics that helped in saving his life when he suffered a cardiac arrest in the middle of a game between the same two rivals in January.

Hamlin suffered what is called a commotio cordis, “an extremely rare, serious medical condition that can happen after a sudden, blunt impact to the chest,” as described by the American Heart Association (AHA).

Other teams and players across the country showered messages of love and support for Hamlin and prayed for his speedy recovery as he recovered at the UC Medical Center in Cincinnati. He was cleared to play football again in the month of April after which he came back to support his side and play a big roal in his team’s inroads this season.
