“Need it at UFC 300”: Fans rejoice after Josh Emmett calls out Max Holloway for No.1 contender fight

Josh Emmet, known for his ferocious knockout power, send Bryce Mitchell to the shadow realm in the main card opener of UFC 296. Mitchell was a short notice replacement for Giga Chikadze who suffered a groin injury during sparring.

Emmet had already fought twice in 2023 before the fight at UFC 296, losing both. At UFC 284, he fought in the co-main event against Yair Rodriguez for the interim featherweight title. His second fight in 2023 was a Fight Night headliner against Ilia Topuria in a fight that Emmet lost via unanimous decision.

Josh Emmett wants No.1 contender fight with Max Holloway

Josh Emmett recently expressed his interest in fighting the number one ranked featherweight and former champion Max Holloway. “I want a clear shot to the title, the best path there is, fighting the number one Contender, and that’s Max Holloway,” said Emmett on his YouTube channel expressing his interest in fighting Holloway and thereby securing a title shot with a victory.

“I want to be a world champion. You know, he’s one of, arguably, one of the greatest featherweight champions of all time too. Volkanovski, Max Holloway, and Jose Aldo, legends of the sport. He’s one of the best,” Emmett praised Holloway and other legends in the UFC featherweight division; Alexander Volkanovski and Jose Aldo.

Holloway last fought Chan Sung Jung a.k.a The Korean Zombie, headlining UFC Singapore, in what was Jung’s retirement fight. Recently, Holloway angled for a BMF title fight with Justin Gaethje at UFC 300 in the lightweight division.

Emmet is ranked 6th in the division and only Max Holloway above him is without a fight scheduled. With Emmet not wanting to fight anybody below his rankings, the chances of a Holloway-Emmett fight happening are very high.

MMA Fans on board with Josh Emmett’s idea

Josh Emmet’s callout of Max Holloway for a number one contender fight at featherweight did not go unnoticed by MMA fans on social media. They expressed their support for the fan-friendly matchup between two action-packed fighters.

“Daaamn, that’s a dope ass fight right there actually,” commented one fan who found the fight to be very exciting. “He leaves Holloway like he did Mitchell,” commented another fan who predicted a KO loss for Holloway similar to Bryce Mitchell.

“I’m in,” commented yet another fan who expressed his interest in seeing the fight come to fruition. From the comments sections, it was pretty much evident that both Emmet and Holloway have a substantially big fanbase.

Holloway has been a fan favorite for a very long time but Emmet recently got a huge following after his brutal one-hit quitter knockout of Bryce Mitchell. However, both Holloway and Emmett are respectful of each other and the fight is expected to provide bonkers if it materializes.
