Bad things happen to good people sometimes, and such has been the case with Neymar Jr, who has had to struggle with injury problems for the past six years of his professional career. The Brazilian shone brightly at Barcelona alongside Messi and Suarez and wanted to form his own legacy elsewhere, hence his decision to join PSG.
That decision rather ruined his legacy, as injury problems and power play eventually led to his exit from the French club. Those injury problems followed him to his new club in the Saudi Pro League, where he’s now nursing an ACL injury suffered on international duty for Brazil, although his doctor has shared a positive update.
Brazilian doctor provides positive update on Neymar Jr injury
It might seem like a wild assumption, but maybe Neymar Jr could have reached his full potential had injuries not tampered with his progress. Even without the intensity of European football, the Brazilian managed to suffer another long-term injury in a World Cup qualifying game against Uruguay some weeks ago, and after a successful ACL surgery, his doctor has now provided a positive update.
“He’s shown, from the first moment, that he’s following what we’re proposing,” Doctor Rodrigo Lasmar, the Brazil national team doctor, said on Monday. “He knows that it’s a process that he’s going to need all of us, physiotherapist, fitness trainer so that we can have Neymar back as soon as possible,” he added.
Doctor Lasmar performed the surgery on Neymar and made it clear that setting a date of return for the new Al-Hilal man was far-fetched and that they were rather focused on his recovery.
“Injuries are individual. In general, there are associated injuries that can be just as important, such as a meniscus injury. All this makes the procedure more complex, with a slower recovery period. That’s why we don’t talk about a timescale,” the doctor said.
Neymar Jr injury recovery procedures
After the success of the proposed ACL surgery to help Neymar return to the field of play again, the Brazilian and his team are now focused on recovery, which, according to his doctor in Brazil, may take a while.
His injury problems have not helped his case with his new employer, who are now reportedly considering taking him off the payroll just a few months after signing him for around $90 million.
The season-ending injury clearly disrupted Neymar Jr’s new plans in a new country, but his priority now is his recovery, which is reportedly divided into several phases.
Neymar Jr is set to undergo a five-phase rehabilitation program in one of the best specialized zones in his native Brazil, and while his doctor is avoiding the subject of timeframe, it may take the former PSG man up to a year to fully recover from the injury.
Neymar, who is drawing positive vibes from his family, was forced to use crutches as part of the first phase of the four-week rehabilitation program.
