Neymar Jr.’s imminent Saudi move, Kylian Mbappe U-turn: Joining the dots in the Parisian cold war

Kylian Mbappe remains one of the game’s most exciting talents, and he’s been predicted to lift the Ballon d’Or someday. Of course, a player of his caliber usually has to face a lot of challenges both inside and outside the field and how he handles them could have major implications.

For PSG, all seems to be falling apart. They have turned into a club that does not have a team of superstars anymore but rather a team of squad players that will hopefully take the club to the next level.

Neymar’s move to Saudi instigated to appease Mbappe

There’s a reason building an all-star team never quite works in real life, and that’s because big players usually have big egos, and putting them all together in one team is usually catastrophic. It’s not just in football – if you put the brightest minds in one room for research, they will most likely never agree with each other because of their egos. Such has been the case with PSG.

Messi after PSG's Champions League win over Manchester City: I'll improve with Neymar, Mbappe - ESPN

The Paris-based club has spent the past five years trying to build an all-star team that could win them the Champions League. However, this has not worked out as a front-three of Neymar, Messi, and Mbappe couldn’t inspire a Champions League victory last campaign, leading to the exit of Lionel Messi, and Neymar’s departure from the club also looks imminent.

Kylian Mbappe has been playing stubborn with PSG over a new contract, with the Frenchman reportedly keen on moving to Real Madrid for free next summer. However, Neymar’s move to Saudi Arabia has also taken center stage with reports suggesting that PSG is moving the Brazilian on to please Mbappe.

Interestingly, the club released a statement confirming the Frenchman’s reinstatement into the team the day reports broke out about Neymar’s imminent move to Al-Hilal.

According to ESPN, Kylian Mbappe may sign a new contract with the club after being reinstated into the first team. He has reportedly promised PSG that he would not leave the club for free next summer, leaving the French giants in a better position than they’ve been in this transfer window.

Mbappe’s rivalry with the Brazilian ace

Neymar and Mbappe used to be best friends. The Frenchman saw the Brazilian as a role model, but as Mbappe grew into one of the football’s finest footballers, winning the World Cup as a teenager, his ego seemingly got bigger, and he started seeing Neymar as a rival rather than a mentor. Both players fought to take penalties, and reports of off-field brawls surfaced.

The arrival of Lionel Messi did not help the pair’s relationship as the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner was closer to Neymar, potentially making Mbappe jealous of their relationship.
