The 2023 NFL season has witnessed how formerly undefeated teams like the San Francisco 49ers lost track and got embroiled in a losing streak. This season has also been a witness to the phenomenal comeback performance of the Cincinnati Bengals, who went 5-3 from 1-3.
However, teams like the Chicago Bears, under Justin Fields’ leadership, weren’t good at the beginning of the season and aren’t now. Following a series of disappointing performances, an NFL analyst thinks the franchise should bid adieu to their quarterback before it is too late.
Joy Taylor advocates for the Bears to part ways with Fields
During the Bears’ week 6 match against the Minnesota Vikings, Fields suffered a thumb injury getting sacked by the opponent’s veteran Danielle Hunter, leading him to land awkwardly and dislocate the thumb. He is now out of the squad due to the setback, giving backup quarterback Tyson Bagent the chance to be a starter for the team in four matches.
Meanwhile, NFL analyst Joy Taylor said on “Speak” that the Chicago-based team should move on from the signal-caller, although her take was directed towards the QB’s performance this season.
Due to a lackluster 3-14 record last season, the Bears got the No. 1 pick in the draft, which they could use to draft a young, promising QB like Bryce Young or C.J. Stroud. Nevertheless, the team chose to stay committed to Fields. Taylor said that as the dual threat is now in his third season with the franchise and has yet to shine on the field properly, they should part ways with him as his tenure has already been enough.
Prior to sustaining the thumb injury, Justin couldn’t prove his caliber to be a reliable troop, as he completed just 61.7 percent of his pass attempts. Besides that, the vet threw for 1,201 yards along with 11 touchdowns for six interceptions throughout six games this year.
Chicago Bears grapple with dismal 3-7 record
After digesting back-to-back defeats, the Bears are sitting at the last spot of the NFC North with a poor 3-7 record and are very unlikely to secure a playoff run. Aside from their recent win against the Carolina Panthers, their struggle has been prevalent throughout the season.
The Bears’ “bend-don’t-break defense” has produced nothing but disappointment, and Justin Fields has led a lackluster offense. However, unlike the Las Vegas Raiders, who parted with head coach Josh Mcdaniels during the regular season, the Bears general manager will not sack their head coach Matt Eberflus. Despite the team’s recent performance, the GM thinks Matt has showcased improvement lately
“What I see from him on a daily basis and how he gets this team ready on a weekly basis—to me, I see a grown man that has leadership skills to get this thing out of the hole and into where it needs to be,” he said via SI.com.
The Bears do not have a record of firing a head coach during the regular season. However, given the way the franchise is moving forward this season, do you think that it is a wise decision? Tell us in the comments.
