Since the start of the season, the Patriots’ struggle to manage a win led the speculation to circulate that Bil Belichick’s era perhaps was going to be concluded soon. Meanwhile, the head coach already etched his name in the annals of the NFL history book, entering the elite club of 300 regular season wins, though for touching the landmark only two of the Patriots’ wins this season could contribute.
Belichick’s floundering team already missed playoffs last year and is seemingly running on the same road this year, referring to the head coach’s stint to end soon with the Patriots.
Rumors circulate about Bill Belichick’s potential coaching change
During Pat McAfee’s show on Tuesday, McAfee brought up the highly heated matter in a conversation with ESPN NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky. The former player in this regard read out a report from The Athletic’s Dianna Russini this past weekend. In that report, Russini claimed that the Patriots team is secretly preparing to untie their knot with Bill Belichick at the end of the season.
Orlovsky shared his acceptance in this matter, citing the matter reached to his ear as well, but he was yet to be ascertained.
“I’ve heard more and more of that over the last week. I’m not a reporter, but I have heard that,” Orlovsky said.
The ESPN analyst stunned McAfee by revealing that he even heard that a possible destination for the age-defying coach, vying to surpass Don Shula, was also determined.
“I have heard that’s going to be the case. Who knows the likelihood of it, but I’ve heard it’s going to happen, and I’ve heard the location is already kind of determined as well.”
“Where he’s going?” McAfee inquired of Orlovsky for clarification.
The expert responded with his prediction for the Los Angeles Chargers, although he quickly clarified that he had only heard about it.
Prior to that, Athletics reporter Jeff Howe reported a firm belief in the intent of the Patriots owner Robert Kraft to get rid of the 71-year-old coach. However, the speculation at last resolved as soon as the head coach’s contract extension deal got public attention.
Bill Belichick hints at possibly removing Mac Jones
Bill Belichick’s job, though, now seems to be not safe in New England, while the head coach also can’t feel confident about his quarterback’s job. Mac Jones’ athletic ability raised so many questions in the eye of the head coach that he even benched their star quarterback for two straight games.
Amid this when the head coach pulled Jones late in Sunday’s game during their 6-10 loss to the Indianapolis Colts, rumors began to swirl on the air about the Patriot’s thoughts on shuffling their quarterback role. Bill Belichick added more fuel to the rumors, hinting at the possibility of such a scenario.
“Yeah, we just got back from Germany. … We’ll look at everything across the board,” he said.
It remains to be seen if Jones, Bill Belichick, or both will be fired with the Patriots at 2-8 and at the bottom of the division. Stay tuned to get the most recent updates.
